Introduction to Echo of Neltharion

Welcome to our guide on the Echo of Neltharion encounter in Aberrus, for Normal and Heroic difficulty! In this guide, we'll walk you through the mechanics of this challenging fight and provide you with tips and strategies to help you succeed.

Phase 1: Twisted Earth Walls and Mechanics

During the first phase of the fight, Twisted Earth Walls will be erected throughout the encounter area, blocking movement and line of sight. It's important for your raid to stick together so as not to get separated. There are several mechanics that allow you to break the walls, but doing so deals damage and applies a stacking raid-wide DoT. Therefore, you should avoid breaking all the walls just because you can.

  • Volcanic Heart

Volcanic Heart is a mechanic that marks a few players who will explode after 7 seconds. If you are marked, make sure to move at least 10 yards away from other players before the explosion occurs.

  • Calamitous Strike

The tank will be targeted with Calamitous Strike, a knockback ability. If the tank flies into an earth wall, they will break it. Tanks should aim themselves at an outside wall unless they need to create a hole, and then perform a tank swap after being knocked back.

  • Rushing Darkness

Rushing Darkness targets a few raiders and knocks them back. Just like the tank knockback, if you fly into a wall, you'll break it. Anyone in the path of Rushing Darkness will also take damage and be silenced, so make sure to point this ability away from the group and only into a wall if you need to get through.

  • Echoing Fissure

The boss will perform a large AoE called Echoing Fissure. To avoid it, you must escape through a hole in the Twisted Earth Walls to a new section of the room. The boss will then rebuild the walls, and you'll need to start again. Break only one new hole and leave the rest of the walls intact.

Phase 2: Voice from Beyond Adds

When the boss reaches 60% health, the second phase begins. Echo of Neltharion will summon three Voice from Beyond adds that must be killed to progress. The boss will cast Umbral Annihilation, dealing significant raid damage that increases with each cast, so you're on a timer to kill the adds before being wiped out.

  • Umbral Annihilation

The adds will have an absorb shield that you need to break through before you can kill them. When the shield breaks, the add will pulse raid damage until it dies, so focus on taking them down one at a time. They spawn in different sections of the room, so you'll need to break a few walls to reach them.

  • Sunder Shadow and Shadow Strike

Tanks can assist in breaking walls with the new tank mechanic, Sunder Shadow. It splits the tank's soul from their body, allowing them to run through walls as a ghost. The boss follows up with Shadow Strike, which blasts the tank's body from its original location to the spot where the ghost ran to, breaking any walls along the way. This ability also leaves a debuff, so tanks should swap after it. Essentially, the tank can run to the next add as a ghost and clear a path for the raid to follow.

  • Rushing Darkness in Phase 2

Rushing Darkness continues in this phase, so make sure to aim it wisely to break walls only when needed.

Phase 3: New Walls and Portals

In the third phase, new walls are created, and they won't be rebuilt, so don't break too many. Both Rushing Darkness and the tank knockback will occur in this phase, so make sure to aim them appropriately. The boss will also turn wall fragments into portals with Sunder Reality.

  • Sunder Reality and Aberration Adds

These portals will spawn small aberration adds that should be cleaved down with the boss. You'll need the portals to survive the upcoming mechanic, Ebon Destruction. To avoid being killed by Ebon Destruction, everyone must stand on a portal during the end of its cast. Using a portal for this purpose will despawn it, so you can either clear the room and reduce add volume by spreading out and using multiple portals or conserve portals by sharing. Standing on a portal deals damage and prevents you from dealing damage, so only step on it for the end of Ebon Destruction.

  • Heroic Difficulty Changes

On Heroic difficulty, the shielded adds in Phase 2 can only be damaged by select players, whom Neltharion chooses with Corruption. If you're marked with Corruption, make sure you're doing your part to break the add shield. Once the shields are broken, everyone can help finish off the add. The small portal adds from Phase 3 are upgraded on Heroic, dealing more damage the longer they're alive. Don't fall behind on killing them.
