Halls Of Valor Mythic Plus Dragonflight Dungeon

December 05, 2022 15 minutes
Halls of Valor, alongside a few other legacy dungeons, are being added to the Mythic plus table in season one of Dragonflight. While the dungeon mechanics have received only a few changes, many enemies received heavy tuning changes to bring them in line with the other dungeons in Dragonflight.

Hymdall

  • Hymdall Notable Trash

Only three trash packs are between the entrance and the first boss Hymdall.

Valarjar Thundercallers will afflict players with Thunderstrike, which must be spread away from the teammates.

Just before Hymdall, you will also encounter a Storm Drake. He will use Lightning Breath in the tank's direction, which is a dragon's typical frontal breath. Also, Crackling Storm spawns little vortexes on the floor that slightly move around, damaging players standing in it.

  • Hymdall Boss Fight

Approaching Hymdall, tanks must be aware of the bloodletting sweep cast first and foremost. This will deal a moderate amount of tank damage.

Hymdall will also randomly throw blades at a random target. Just be sure to move away from these whenever possible.

The main meat of the fight comes from the Storm Drakes that sweep across the bridge throughout the encounter. Whenever he calls these Drakes, look towards the sky to identify which lane they will fly through. It will always happen in sets of three.

You'll want to move the boss accordingly. Many electrified tornadoes will move perpendicular to the storm breath cast. Simply rinse and repeat until you defeat Hymdall.

Hyrja

  • Hyrja Notable Trash

After Hymdall, you'll be able to choose going right first, hunting the wolf Fenryr, or left - to the valkyrie Hyrja as your choice of the second boss.

In the hallway, right after the first boss Hymdall you will encounter more Valarjar enemies. They attack random players with shots and deal light melee damage to tanks, but the most important ones are the Valarjar Mystic healing the enemies with Healing Light which has to be interrupted frequently. They also use Rune of Healing to heal them even more, so tanks have to make sure to position enemies quickly out of this Rune.

You will also encounter four Stormforged Sentinels. They use Charged Pulse, creating a 15-yard circle around them to deal damage and knock players away that are struck by it.

They also cast Crackle - a line of lightning in the direction of a random party member which deals periodic damage to players remaining inside it.

Before the Hyrja boss spawns, you'll need to defeat each of the mini-bosses on either side. Pay attention to their mechanics because Hyrja will channel power from whichever mini-boss area she is tanked near.

Solsten possesses Eye of the Storm. You must hide inside the bubble area when the cast is ongoing.

Olmyr the Enlightened castes Sanctify. Simply move around the sparkles and don't get hit by them.

  • Hyrja Boss Fight

I recommend starting the boss where Solsten fell. This is so she'll start with the eye of the Storm Cast. Whenever she inevitably casts this spell, be sure your entire group is inside the bubble. Healers, just make sure you're ready for the group damage.

Tanks, following these unique mechanics, you're going to be hit with Shield of Light which is a tank buster that will also knock you back. What's unique about this ability is that anyone will be hit within its path. Thus, your group needs to be aware of your positioning. To minimize your movement, aim your back towards the other side of the room so you can quickly move the boss.

When on the other side, Hyrja will first target a player with Expel Light. Simply move away from others.

Also, she will cast Sanctify, which is a brutal ability. When this is being channeled, I recommend backing away and prioritizing dodging orbs instead of dealing damage.

Every time she casts this empowered ability, be sure to swap sides, as she'll gain damage with the following subsequent cast. After bouncing back and forth a few times, Hyrja should eventually fall.

Fenryr Boss Fight

Fenryr is an odd fight because you'll have to fight this beast twice. Once he reaches about 60% health, he'll flee from his wounds. You then need to hunt him down to finish off the remaining health. When you push him to 60% health, you technically leave combat, allowing your healer to grab mana and for cooldowns to recover.

Fenryr is a simple stack spread fight because you want to stack for Claw Frenzy cast, which is a tank buster that also shares damage among everyone within 12 yards.

Then on every Ravenous Leap cast, your group will want to spread to ensure you keep the bleed applications minimum.

Finally, Fenryr will cast Unnerving Howl every 35 seconds, which interrupts spell casting, so wait to cast not to get the interrupt.

When you hunt down Fenryr for Phase 2, there will be adds that spawn. Your DPS will want to cleave these down.

The last mechanic in Phase 2 is Scent of Blood, where Fenryr will fixate a target and chase them for 6 seconds.

You can counter this with a major defensive immunity or by running away. After a successful hunt you can move on to the next boss.

God-King Skovald

  • God-King Skovald Notable Trash

As soon as you defeat Hyrja and Fenryr the middle door in the hallway will open to the last two bosses of the dungeon.

In front of you are the last four NPCs, which will engage individually after talking to one of them. Each of them has a unique ability granted to the others whenever you defeat one.

I would start with King Haldor, the second one on the left side, which uses Sever to deal heavy damage to the tank.

The next one is King Ranulf which uses Unruly Yell to interrupt spellcasting whenever he uses it.

The last two enemies, regardless of which order you chose, will engage at the same time. King Bjorn uses Wicked Dagger to damage a random player, and King Tor uses Call Ancestor to spot an add which slowly travels towards him. When it reaches him, King Tor will be healed. This add can be stunned, slowed, rooted, or even trapped.

  • God-King Skovald Boss Fight

Skovald is a two-phase fight that can get pretty chaotic. First, tanks are mindful of the Savage Blade cast. Be sure to use either defensive or just have mitigation active.

Skovald will then target players with Felblaze Rush. This player needs to move away from others to prevent anyone from getting cleaved.

Skovald will cast Ragnarok, a lethal AOE damaging ability. You counter this by using and standing behind the Aegis of Aggramar. The tank typically uses this item, but anyone can use it if needed.

After the Ragnarok cast Skovald will steal the shield for himself and enter Phase 2. Almost immediately, he will use the shield for himself. Move behind the shield to continue damaging him. During this phase, he will spawn adds that will leave void zones. Kill these adds and avoid standing in the fire on the ground. Once these adds are defeated, you'll repeat phase one again.

It's best to stay near melee, stack, and spread when needed. Once Skovald falls, it's time to face Odin himself.

Odyn Boss Fight

Odyn will Target random players with Spear of Light which will deal damage and spawn orbs that will damage if you come into contact with them. Just be sure to move away whenever they spawn.

Next, Odyn will spawn a Stormforged Obliterator, which is the kill priority. It will cast an ability called Surge. This needs to be kicked at all costs.

Shortly after the add spawns, Odyn will cast Radiant Tempest, a massive AOE Circle lethal if caught in it. I recommend taking Odyn to the corner of the circular room.

Right after Radiant Tempest finishes, Odyn will shatter all the active Spears causing them to disappear, but they'll also shoot out orbs in all directions. Focus on dodging these orbs first.

Then you'll enter phase two. All players will be marked with a unique runic buff. You'll want to match with the appropriate colored Rune and gain a huge damage buff for some time.

This is an excellent time to use cooldowns if you have any. Once this buff falls off, it returns to the first phase. Repeat these mechanics until Odyn reaches 80% health. At this point, you have proven your might, and Odyn yields.

Final Thoughts

Halls of Valor has been one of the longest dungeons during the Legion, with an almost 45 minutes timer back in the days. This has already been reduced to 38 minutes in Dragonflight due to the significant nerves to many abilities and enemies. Nowadays, this dungeon is a bit easier than it was during Legion.

I hope you guys are finding this guide useful. I'm also attaching a video guide where you can find bosses only. Trash packs are coming to the video in the future.
