Mastering The Start: Do This Week 1-2 In 10.1 Dragonflight

May 04, 2023 20 minutes

First Week Content

Today, I'm going to give you a guide on what you should be doing during the first week of Patch 10.1 and the start of the new season in World of Warcraft.

  • Mythic Plus

First, let's talk about what happens during the first week when the patch comes out. You'll still be able to access Mythic Plus dungeons, but they will be Season 1 dungeons, and you won't be able to access any Season 2 content just yet. The loot you get from Season 1 dungeons will remain the same as before the patch comes live. During this week, you won't be able to earn a Rank 1 title. If you've already earned it before the patch came out, you're all set. However, if you increase your rating during this week, it won't count towards earning that title. You should still be able to get Keystone Master (KSM) and Keystone Hero (KSH) during this pre-season week.

  • New Raid - Old Raid

The new raid won't be available yet, but you can still do the old raid, Vault of the Incarnates, on any difficulty. However, the item level drops will remain the same as in Season 1, so you won't have access to any higher item level items from Mythic Plus or raiding during this first week.

  • PvP in Week 1 of 10.1

PvP will also still be in Season 1, but it's essentially pre-season, meaning you won't be able to earn a Rank 1 title any longer.

  • The Vault in Week 1 of 10.1

The Vault that you open during the first week of the patch will still contain Season 1 items. Additionally, the Vault you open during the second week of the patch will also still contain Season 1 items, because there's no new Mythic Plus or raid content available in the first week of the patch. As a result, the items you receive during the second week will also be from Season 1.

  • First Week Content Summary

In summary, during the first week of Patch 10.1, you should focus on completing Season 1 content, as you won't have access to Season 2 just yet. Keep in mind that the items you receive from the Vault during the first two weeks of the patch will still be from Season 1, so plan accordingly.

Catalyst

As the transition between Season 1 and Season 2 in World of Warcraft occurs, you might be wondering what will happen with your Catalysts.

During the transition, Catalysts will continue to turn Season 1 items into Season 1 tier gear. This option will be open immediately and, according to developers, it will be free. So, if you have any charges left on your Catalysts that you don't need, it's a good idea to spend them before the patch is released. Once the patch is out, you'll be able to convert any Mythic Plus item from Season 1 or any raid item from Season 1 into tier gear. This feature is particularly helpful for those who are still working on their catch-up gear or those seeking specific transmog items for their characters from LFR or Normal mode.

As for the Season 2 Catalysts, they will be used to convert Season 2 items into Season 2 tier gear. However, this feature won't be available immediately. You'll have to wait six weeks into Season 2 before you can start using the Season 2 Catalysts. This means that players will have ample time to acquire new items and prepare themselves for the next stage of gearing in the game.

In conclusion, as the game transitions between seasons, make sure to utilize your Season 1 Catalysts while they're still relevant. Keep in mind that Season 2 Catalysts will not be available for use until six weeks into the new season, so plan your gearing strategy accordingly.

Crests

Now let’s discuss Crests, which are part of the new upgrading system in World of Warcraft. If you're unfamiliar with how the new upgrading system works or what Crests are, I highly recommend reading our article on Crests as it explains the entire process, including the currency and other important details.

As of writing this blog, I don't have complete information on what will happen during the first week of the patch. Therefore, we're not 100% sure if you can obtain Whelpling Crests and Drake Crests during that initial week. However, we can confirm that you won't be able to get Wyrm Crests and Aspect Crests, as they are tied to Mythic Plus and raiding content, which will not be available in the first week.

Whelpling Crests and Drake Crests are the two lower-tier upgrading Crests, and they can be obtained from various sources, including World Quests, outdoor content, rares, and weekly quests such as Dragon Bank, Community Feasts, and more. These Crests provide players with a way to upgrade their gear and progress their characters without having to wait for the higher-tier content to become available.

Summing up, while we're not entirely certain about the availability of Whelpling Crests and Drake Crests during the first week of the patch, it's important to be aware of the new upgrading system and the role that Crests play in character progression. Keep an eye out for any updates or announcements regarding the availability of these Crests as the patch rolls out, and be prepared to take advantage of this new feature to enhance your gaming experience.

To Do Week 1

So let’s discuss what you should be focusing on during the first week of Patch 10.1 in World of Warcraft. This part of the guide is designed to help you maximize your time and prioritize activities to ensure optimal player power upgrades and overall character progression.

  • 1. Farm Whelpling and Drake Crests

If they become available in the first week, dedicate time to farm 10 Welpling Crests and 10 Drake Crests. Welpling Crests are particularly useful for upgrading gear up to item level 421. Meanwhile, Drake Crests play a significant role in higher item level upgrades, making them valuable for all players, even those with high item level gear.

Remember, you don't need to farm all 10 Crests during the first week since it's a seasonal cap, and you can catch up later on. This flexibility allows you to focus on other priorities without sacrificing long-term progress.

Also, keep in mind that we provide Crest Farm Service at WowCarry which you can utilize to save some time during the first weeks and get the required number of Crests.

  • 2. Gather Shadowflame Sparks

Be sure to obtain half of your Shadowflame Spark, as these resources are essential for crafting weapons and other powerful upgrades. Since they're time-gated, it's crucial to prioritize using them on weapons, particularly because you can still use Season 1 embellishments for other gear.

  • 3. Farm Flight Stones

Flight Stones, which are likely to drop from Season 2 content, are another crucial resource. In the first week, farm as many Flight Stones as you can to make gear upgrades easier during the second week of the patch. While you can obtain Flight Stones more easily once the new season starts, stocking up early can provide a valuable head start.

  • 4. Complete Mythic Plus Dungeons

In the first week, focus on completing Season 1 Mythic Plus dungeons, as only these will be available. Aim to finish the highest level key possible, as the Season 2 key you receive from your Vault in the second week will be 10 levels lower. Get high Mythic plus keys using our Mythic+20 Service in case you struggle to complete it or simply don't have enough time for it. This strategy ensures that you start the new season with a strong foundation.

  • 5. Level Professions, Farm Reputation, and Gather Recipes

If you find yourself with extra time, invest in leveling your professions, gathering new recipes, and farming reputation for the new faction in the new zone. These activities, although not directly tied to player power, contribute to your character's overall progression and unlock additional content and rewards.

  • 6. Complete Campaign and World Quests

Engage in campaign quests, world quests, and other activities in the new zone to experience the latest content and earn various rewards. While these activities might not be essential for player power upgrades, they offer an enjoyable and immersive experience that adds to the overall excitement of the new patch.

  • 7. Plan Ahead and Optimize Your Strategy

During the first week of Patch 10.1, take the time to plan and optimize your strategy. Consider which activities will provide the most significant benefit to your character, and prioritize accordingly. Also, think about potential gear upgrades, profession improvements, and resource allocation to ensure you're well-prepared for the challenges of the new season.

In conclusion, the first week of Patch 10.1 presents an excellent opportunity to focus on upgrading your gear, gathering crucial resources, and preparing for the launch of the new season. By prioritizing these activities and balancing them with other aspects of character progression, you'll be in a prime position to tackle the new content and challenges that await you in the weeks to come.

To Do Week 2

Now some guidance on what you should be focusing on during the second week of Patch 10.1 in World of Warcraft. We will dive deeper into each aspect of the game to help you make the most of your time during this crucial period.

  • 1. Crest Farming: Whelpling, Drake, Wyrm, and Aspect Crests

During the second week, your primary goal should be to farm a variety of crests that are essential for upgrading your gear. Focus on obtaining:

  • 10 Whelpling Crests: If you don't have full 421 gear, farm these crests to upgrade your gear to item level 421.
  • 10 Drake Crests: Use these crests to upgrade your 421 gear to item level 428.
  • 10 Wyrm Crests: These crests are necessary for upgrading heroic raid gear to Mythic item level.
  • 10 Aspect Crests: Crucial for upgrading any item to the max item level and crafting items to max item level with Enchanted Aspect Crests.

Remember that some of these crests might have weekly caps, so plan accordingly to make the most of your farming efforts.

  • 2. Tackle High-Level Mythic Plus Keys for Greater Rewards

As you venture into the second week, aim to complete as many high-level Mythic Plus keys as possible. Ideally, strive to complete eight plus 20 keys to unlock your Vault fully. By doing so, you'll ensure that you receive the highest possible gear from your Mythic Plus Vault, giving you a significant advantage moving forward.

  • 3. Conquer Raid Bosses Across Multiple Difficulties for Better Gear

The second week of Patch 10.1 presents a golden opportunity to acquire powerful new tier gear by defeating raid bosses on various difficulties. Focus on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties to maximize your chances of obtaining tier gear. Additionally, unlocking your raiding vault will improve the likelihood of getting tier gear from your vault.

It's essential to understand that the raid vault loot table system has changed in Season 2. Previously, you could only receive loot from bosses you had killed in your vault. However, in Season 2, if you kill the last boss on a difficulty, all previous boss loot will be included in your vault, regardless of whether you killed them or not. This change prevents players from skipping certain bosses to manipulate their loot tables.

  • 4. Optimize Your Gear by Crafting Spark Items

In the second week, focus on crafting your Spark items. Among these items, weapons tend to be the most valuable choice due to their significant impact on your character's overall power. If a new embellishment was added in Season 2 that requires a Shadowflame Spark, consider crafting it after consulting your class Discord or relevant guides for your spec. This will help you ensure that you're making the most of your resources to enhance your character's capabilities.

  • 5. Additional Tips for Second Week Success

Aside from the primary tasks mentioned above, consider completing the following activities to further enhance your character's progression:

  • Participate in world quests, daily and weekly quests to farm additional resources.
  • Level up your professions and acquire new recipes to craft better gear.
  • Increase your reputation with the new factions introduced in the patch.
  • Complete campaign quests, world quests, and quests in the new zone for added rewards.

To sum up, the second week of Patch 10.1 offers a range of activities and opportunities for progression. Prioritize farming crests, completing high-level Mythic Plus keys, defeating raid bosses, and crafting Spark items to optimize your character's progression and gear upgrades. By staying focused and strategic in your approach, you'll be well-prepared for the challenges and rewards that lie ahead in the new season.
