The Name Reveal: Day 6 of the Teaser Countdown
GGG's teaser campaign ran through early February 2026. Each day released new artwork before the full league details were disclosed. Day 6 confirmed "Mirage" as the league name β a Maraketh desert and Djinn-themed expansion to Path of Exile's mapping endgame. The teaser art foregrounded sand, oasis imagery, and shackled spirit motifs, all consistent with the Maraketh/Arabian desert aesthetic that defines the finished league.
Community speculation about a loot-bias mechanic, drawn from the teaser art's depictions of wish-granting figures, turned out to be accurate. The finished league uses a wish system tied to three Djinn types that directly shapes loot outcomes.
The Reveal Stream
The official Mirage reveal was a full GGG Live Twitch stream held on February 26, 2026, at 11 AM PST at twitch.tv/pathofexile. Game Director Mark and Game Designer Octavian hosted the reveal, with content creator ZiggyD as host for the Q&A segment. The stream disclosed full patch notes and all league mechanics before launch.
What Mirage Actually Delivered
The league launched March 6, 2026. The confirmed mechanics went well beyond what the teasers hinted:
- Djinn wishes: Players choose one of three wishes (Sand, Fire, or Water) before entering the Astral Realm. Each wish corresponds to a Djinn type and controls loot bias, granting Coins that imbue Level 20 skill gems with random support gem effects.
- Astral Realm and Afarud: The Afarud β a rogue sect of Maraketh desert-dwelling necromancers β imprison Djinn inside Astral Chains within a mirrored copy of the map. Key NPC ally Varashta, a legendary Maraketh Sekhema and Djinn herself, aids the player. Key antagonists are Afarud Warlords and Saresh, the Necromancer Supreme.
- Reliquarian ascendancy: A new Scion ascendancy that borrows powers from unique items as Notable passives, with rotating league-specific selections.
- Atlas overhaul: Maps are no longer tied to specific tiers. Arcane Astrolabes replace Sextants, Memory Vaults are introduced, Nightmare Maps (formerly Tier 17) now award Atlas Skill Points, and Unique Maps each grant one Atlas Skill Point (maximum 10).
- Endgame bosses: Incarnation of Dread, Incarnation of Neglect, and Incarnation of Fear added to the endgame rotation.
- Support gems: Over 40 new Exceptional Support Gems added, replacing Awakened versions.
