Heat 3’s 226 Target Was a Fully Buffed Resistance Value
Blizzard recommended at least 226 Fire Resistance for Molten Heat, the third difficulty of Season of Discovery’s Molten Core. Blistering Heat, or Heat 2, used a 96 recommendation. These were the rules introduced with the July 2024 Phase 4 raid.
The official Heat overview explains the difficulty levels. Aggrend’s July 25 clarification states that the resistance numbers were fully buffed, so a player did not need to obtain the entire target from worn items alone.
The useful number is the Fire Resistance actually active on the character during the encounter. A planned aura, an expired consumable or a trinket effect on cooldown cannot be treated as permanent equipment.
Start with Enchant Slots—and Keep Their Patch Versions Straight
These enchant sources avoided replacing an entire armor piece solely for resistance. The head and leg applications were separate: one Lesser Arcanum did not enchant both slots.

The cloak and shoulder buffs are explicit in the September 24, 2024 Phase 5 notes. This is why a July resistance budget and a later item tooltip can show different totals. The original three-slot cloak/head/leg example used the cloak’s earlier 20 value.
Where the Cloak and Arcanum Came From
The original enchant walkthrough by Serenal documents Hydraxian Coronation at Duke Hydraxis for 10 gold after reaching Honored with the Hydraxian Waterlords.
For one Lesser Arcanum of Resilience, the Burning Steppes quest at Mathredis Firestar required one Libram of Resilience, one Black Diamond, four Crystal Spire, one Burning Essence and 30 gold. The resulting enchant could be applied to a head or leg item and replaced another enchant in that slot.
Royal Seal: The Real Class Books for the 10-Resistance Trinket
Each class had its own Royal Seal of Eldre’Thalas with 10 Fire Resistance and class-specific benefits. The class book identified the correct quest, even though the resulting trinkets shared the same name.
Neryssa’s Shen’dralar reference lists all nine books. They could drop from Dire Maul enemies and Dusty Tomes, then be turned in to the appropriate NPC in the Athanaeum library.

This made the trinket a known resistance source for every class. Its other benefits still differed, so the resistance value alone did not determine whether it was the best trinket to retain once more raid gear became available.
Separate Stable Resistance from Effects That Can Disappear

The SoD consumable and buff reference also distinguishes alternative resistance buffs from stacking sources. Fire Resistance Aura and Fire Resistance Totem should not be added together as two independent 60-point bonuses.
For a group relying on a Paladin aura, moving outside coverage can change the character’s resistance without changing any equipment. The same planning issue applies to totem coverage and consumables that run out. Check the active character value after group assignments and buffs are in place.
Choose Gear for a Working Set, Then Improve It with Raid Drops
Passion’s July 31 preparation guide highlighted the Onyxia-attunement amulet, Hydraxian rewards, consumables and upgraded Thorium Brotherhood crafts as options beyond enchants and class trinkets.
For a concrete craft example, Fine Flarecore Gloves retained 25 Fire Resistance while adding offensive value compared with the original Flarecore Gloves. Lokhtos Darkbargainer handled the Phase 4 upgrade exchange. Armor type and the stats being replaced still mattered to the character.
Blizzard intended resistance gear to be replaced gradually by useful raid pieces, including tier armor with resistance already on it. Build the first working set from the pieces actually owned, then replace them as appropriate tier pieces become available.
The 226 recommendation described this Heat mechanic, not immunity to Fire or permission to ignore encounter mechanics. If a group’s active resistance plan was not reliable enough for Molten Heat, the official system allowed changing Heat while out of combat through the raid’s Hydraxian NPCs.
