Reach Effective 315 Skinning with Equipment Bonuses
Onyxia preparation in original WoW Classic uses 300 trained Skinning plus an equipped +10 Skinning weapon and +5 enchanted gloves, for an effective skill of 315. You do not train the profession itself from 300 to 315.
The Classic Skinning reference covers the original 1-300 profession. This setup concerns its level-60 raid context; Retail profession equipment and later expansion skill caps use different rules.

The bonuses must be active when you attempt to skin. Owning the weapon in a bag or enchanting gloves that you have since replaced does not complete this setup.
Choose a Weapon Your Class Can Equip
- Pip's Skinner: main-hand dagger
Pip's Skinner, item 12709, requires level 58 and grants +10 Skinning while equipped. Its listed drop source is The Beast in Upper Blackrock Spire. The dagger is a boss-loot target; skinning the corpse is a different action and does not guarantee the weapon.
- Zulian Slicer: one-hand sword
Zulian Slicer, item 19901, requires level 60 and also grants +10 Skinning while equipped. It drops from High Priest Thekal in Zul'Gurub. It is a sword, not another dagger.
Paladins cannot use the dagger option. The Classic dagger proficiency record excludes Paladins, making the sword alternative relevant for that class. On a realm whose progression has not opened Zul'Gurub, factor that availability into the plan rather than farming an unusable dagger.
The listed 315 setup uses one +10 weapon. Pip's Skinner is a main-hand weapon; this is not an instruction to equip two copies or to assume bonuses from two weapons stack.
Have the Gloves Enchanted; You Do Not Need to Learn the Recipe
Enchant Gloves - Skinning permanently grants +5 Skinning to the enchanted gloves. Another enchanter can apply it for you. The person wearing the gloves does not need to own the Formula or learn Enchanting.
The Classic recipe lists one Vision Dust and three Green Whelp Scales, with a Runed Golden Rod required by the enchanter. Confirm that the enchant is on the gloves you intend to wear for skinning; replacing them removes that part of the effective total.
Check the Setup Before the Kill
- Profession: have trained Skinning to 300.
- Equipment: equip the compatible +10 weapon and the +5 enchanted gloves, then check the effective skill.
- Tool: keep an ordinary Skinning Knife in your bags as well.
- Raid access: finish the Onyxia attunement and carry the Drakefire Amulet in your bags.
- Group plan: agree who is handling the skin before the encounter, and equip the preparation items before attempting it.
Meeting the skill requirement prepares the character to skin; it does not guarantee a particular rare material, a weapon drop or a specific hide quantity. The Beast's separate skinning rewards and NPC interactions are not required steps for assembling the Onyxia equipment bonuses.
