Enchanting 1–300: Start With the Rod, Not a Bulk Shopping List

Learn Enchanting, make a Runed Copper Rod, then follow the skill phases below. Train the next profession rank before reaching your current cap, and buy materials for the next phase rather than an entire speculative 1–300 bundle. Forever changes both early reagents and recipe requirements: a familiar Classic recipe name is not enough to identify the right shopping list.

The useful shortcuts: Motes of Magic cover your first crafts; Silver, Golden and Truesilver rods open at skill 100, 150 and 200 respectively. Artisan can be trained at 200. The listed finishing recipes use a Truesilver Rod, so buying an Arcanite Rod is not a requirement simply to reach 300.

Checked November 4, 2026, before the global launch, against Forever spell/item references and recipe difficulty thresholds. The route is source-checked, including the 225–300 recipes; it is not a claim of personal live-server testing or a universally cheapest launch-market route.

Training Past 75, 150 and 225

The cap is how far your current rank lets you progress. The training requirement is when the next rank becomes available. Those are different numbers: you can learn Journeyman at 50 before hitting 75, Expert at 125 before 150, and Artisan at 200 before 225.

Open Professions with K, select Enchanting and check both your current skill and its maximum. If you have reached the maximum, another orange recipe will not solve the problem: train the next rank first. Keep money for that training and travel rather than spending every coin on dust.

Capital trainers for the first two ranks

Ask a city guard for the Enchanting trainer to mark the district. In these cities the junior trainer and the trainer who advances the profession can be different NPCs; check the names when the desired rank is absent.

Expert and Artisan: plan the journey before the skill cap

Alliance: Kitta Firewind is at the top of the Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest, east of Goldshire. Horde: Hgarth is above Sun Rock Retreat in Stonetalon Mountains; take the rising path by the settlement rather than searching only around the tents. Their current Forever references are linked in the sources below.

Artisan: Annora is inside Uldaman in the Badlands, not in your capital. Her Artisan recipe requires Enchanting 200; the character requirement is level 35. Arrange a dungeon group or suitable assistance. Being old enough to train does not make a level-35 character able to clear that route alone.

For a training trip, use Uldaman’s back entrance route and have the group clear the enemies around Annora’s area. She appears after the room is cleared. Train the rank and check all available recipes before leaving; returning because you bought the rank but forgot a needed enchant wastes the same dungeon travel again. Bring the relevant dust and your rod if you intend to craft during the visit.

Buy These Materials First

For the first 20 points using the route below, bring one Copper Rod and 19 Motes of Magic: one Mote makes the rod and eighteen fund Inferior Stamina casts. These are crafting materials, separate from the fee for learning Enchanting. If you also make the starter wand, add one Simple Wood and one more Mote.

Motes are sold by Enchanting suppliers. The ordinary Copper Rod also comes from a supplier; do not confuse it with a finished, soulbound Runed Copper Rod. Starting-zone trainers do not necessarily have a supplies merchant beside them, so check supplies before taking a long detour away from a capital.

Dust to Motes converts one Strange Dust into three Motes. It needs a Runed Copper Rod, so buy the first Mote to make that tool before relying on the conversion. Compare the supplier’s Mote price with the value of the dust you would consume; converting a material you need for the next phase is not automatically a saving.

Keep several inexpensive pieces of wearable gear for repeated enchants: bracers and chest early, then boots, gloves, a cloak and a shield. Replacing an enchant on the same eligible item is sufficient; you do not need a new pair of bracers for every cast. Read the replacement confirmation so that you do not overwrite the expensive enchant on your actual combat set.

Rod Progression and Exact Reagents

These are recipe learning requirements, not the point at which a rod recipe becomes yellow. The ordinary Silver, Golden, Truesilver and Arcanite rods are Blacksmithing products; buy or commission the base rod, then craft your own runed version. The finished runed tools bind to their maker.

1 Arcanite Rod + 1 Golden Pearl + 10 Illusion Dust + 4 Greater Eternal Essence + 4 Small Brilliant Shards + 2 Large Brilliant ShardsOptional for these leveling rows; needed for other recipes that specify it.

Keep your tools available for the recipe you selected. In particular, the finishing Cloak enchant below lists a Runed Truesilver Rod. Reaching skill 290 does not make an Arcanite Rod compulsory for that recipe. Craft Arcanite when an enchant you actually intend to use requires it, rather than treating a costly tool as an automatic leveling tax.

Leveling 1–150: Motes, Strange Dust and Your First Upgrade

Follow the current skill number, not a fixed count of clicks. For example, “20–70” means continue until the profession reaches 70. Disenchanting gains or optional wand crafts can put you ahead; start the next applicable row instead of making the full batch anyway.

At 50, train Journeyman if you meet the character-level requirement. At 125, learn Expert before trying to pass 150. Making the Silver Rod at 100 can supply a skill point itself; resume from the number now shown in your profession window.

When Magic Essence is the better early purchase

Enchant Bracer - Minor Deflect uses one Lesser Magic Essence, while Inferior Chest Stamina uses one Strange Dust. Minor Deflect’s current difficulty reference turns yellow at 80, versus 70 for the chest enchant. If the recipe is available to your character and essences are cheaper, it is a useful alternative through that early phase. Check its level requirement and your recipe list before buying a large batch.

At skill 100, Enchant 2H Weapon - Lesser Intellect is another option: four Lesser Magic Essences per cast, orange until 130 and yellow until 150. It requires a vendor formula and a two-handed melee weapon as the target. Choose it for the total material and travel cost, not because one essence happens to be cheaper than one dust.

Leveling 150–225: Useful Oils and One-Dust Recipes

Make the Golden Rod when this phase begins. The oil recipes are useful alternatives to repeatedly replacing a permanent enchant, but they need purchased formulas, seeds and the correct vials. Buy those supplies before leaving the formula vendor.

Skill targetCraft / reagents per castWhat to prepare

1 Vision Dust + 2 Stranglethorn Seed + 1 Leaded Vial
Vendor formula; orange until 210.
210–225Enchant Gloves - Agility
1 Vision Dust
Continue the same recipe after training Artisan.

The oils in these rows make a usable item with five applications; the recipe’s vial requirement is per craft, not per application. Minor Mana Oil is usable at character level 20, and Lesser Wizard Oil at 30. They last 30 minutes per application. Keep what your character or group can use, and compare real Auction House demand before making a sale plan around the surplus.

If you do not have Minor Mana Oil’s formula, Lesser Bracer Stamina remains an alternative after 150: it uses one Soul Dust, turns yellow at 155 and remains capable of skill gains beyond that. At the next step, Lesser Boots Agility opens at 160 and uses one Soul Dust per cast. For the 200–210 bridge without Lesser Wizard Oil, your earlier Strength enchant can still give points, but it is already yellow; allow extra attempts.

Train Artisan at 200 once your character is eligible, or make the Uldaman trip before reaching 225. You can complete the 210–225 portion with Expert, but you cannot continue beyond its cap until the rank is trained.

Leveling 225–300: Choose the Final Material Market

This part uses the current listed requirements and colors. Purchase the vendor formulas before committing to a large amount of Dream or Illusion Dust. A formula that binds on pickup must be bought on the enchanter who will learn it.

Skill targetCraft / reagents per castColor / decision
225–230Enchant Gloves – Agility
1 Vision Dust
The previous recipe remains orange until 230.
230–235Enchant Boots - Stamina
2 Vision Dust
Orange until 235.
235–250Enchant Chest - Superior Stamina
3 Vision Dust
Yellow from 240. Fifteen successful points can require more casts.
250–265Lesser Mana Oil
1 Dream Dust + 1 Purple Lotus + 1 Crystal Vial
Yellow from 260; allow additional materials.
265–285Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina
6 Dream Dust
Vendor formula; orange until 285.
285–300Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense
8 Illusion Dust
Orange until 305. Uses a Truesilver Rod; optional Dream Dust alternative below.

There are two reasonable finishing choices. Cloak – Superior Defense opens at 285 and stays orange through this guide’s finishing range, costing eight Illusion Dust per cast. Shield – Greater Stamina costs six Dream Dust and turns yellow at 285, but can still give points through 300. Cheap Dream Dust can make extra shield attempts preferable; cheap Illusion Dust makes the guaranteed-color cloak route more attractive. Neither recipe lists an Arcanite Rod as its tool.

At 250–265, Lesser Mana Oil turns yellow at 260. If Purple Lotus is costly or the formula is unavailable, Enchant Bracer - Greater Strength is an alternative using one Dream Dust and two Lesser Nether Essences per cast; compare that whole reagent bundle. Check its current color before buying a batch; do not assume fifteen casts will deliver fifteen points.

Do not buy a fixed “exact total” for the yellow phases. Buy a small buffer, craft until the target skill, then reassess. An inexpensive per-cast recipe can become expensive when it takes more attempts, and a skill-gain Legacy perk can change the number of materials you actually use.

Formula Shopping Stops

The route intentionally favors trainer recipes, with a few vendor purchases. Buy the formula itself before its reagents if you have not checked current stock. Limited availability and another player’s Auction House markup can change the useful route.

The Greater Stamina shield formula binds on pickup. A bank alt cannot buy it and mail it to your enchanter. The Arcanite Rod formula is also bind-on-pickup; its shopping trip is optional for the skill-only route above, but necessary when you decide to make that tool.

Wands, Disenchanting and What You Can Actually Sell

The new starter wand is a practical reason to visit the supplies merchant early. Its two ingredients are supplier goods, so you can create a basic wand without waiting for a green item to disenchant. The later wands are stronger comparisons, with their own character-level requirements.

Crafted itemUse level / wand DPSReagents for one
Novice's Practice WandNo listed level requirement · 4.00 DPS1 Simple Wood + 1 Mote of Magic; requires your Copper Rod.
Lesser Magic WandLevel 5 · 11.33 DPS1 Simple Wood + 1 Lesser Magic Essence.
Greater Magic WandLevel 13 · 17.50 DPS1 Simple Wood + 2 Lesser Magic Essences.

Those are item-use requirements, separate from the skill needed to learn each crafting recipe. A level-13 buyer can use Greater Magic Wand without being an enchanter. Conversely, learning a recipe does not let a character equip an item whose level requirement they have not met.

Disenchant is available through the Enchanting interface in Professions. It destroys the selected eligible green-quality or better weapon or armor and extracts enchanting materials. First decide whether the item is an upgrade, a valuable tradeable item or something another group member needs. The vendor value is a real opportunity cost; every green item is not automatically worth more as dust.

Tailoring supplies craftable gear without a gathering profession, making it a convenient partner, but the cloth still has a sale value. Crafting an item specifically to disenchant only makes economic sense after comparing the cloth, other reagents and expected recovered materials. No fixed launch-day profit or guaranteed material yield is assumed here.

Do not plan around Enchanting Vellum scroll sales. Vellum has appeared in client data, but the prelaunch Forever references do not establish it as an available player supply. Tradeable crafted wands and oils are a different, verifiable product category. Permanent enchant commissions depend on the actual trade/enchanting interface available to the recipient.

Camping and Your Next Useful Recipe

Enchanting’s first campsite feature is the Enchanted Lute at skill 20. Blizzard describes level-scaled armor, all-stat and resistance benefits that are exclusive with Mark of the Wild. Sit or craft by the campsite for a minute to gain the available features’ benefits; an already active stronger class buff changes what the lute adds.

Use our Camping guide for the shared camp slots and cooldown rules. For a broader profession decision, compare the profession pairs. Your class guide should decide which permanent enchant helps your actual set; leveling the profession and buying your endgame enchants are separate tasks.

If you prefer help with profession progression, the WoW Forever Enchanting service lists its current options. Check the chosen skill range and what materials or formulas the option includes; reaching 300 does not mean every rare formula is learned.

Sources and What Was Checked

The linked Forever spell and item entries supply exact reagents, tools and difficulty thresholds. The Artisan rank reference lists Artisan at 200, and the Silver, Golden and Truesilver recipes list 100, 150 and 200. Recipe colors were read separately from their training requirements; that distinction is why this route does not copy the higher numbers sometimes shown in profession overviews.
