Rogue’s Vessel of Hatred Launch Changes Spanned Two Builds
Dance of Knives, new passives and substantial melee changes arrived in the October 2024 launch update, while Patch 2.0.2 also fixed several Rogue interactions. The two layers have different entries in Blizzard’s official patch archive: 2.0.1 Build 58145 and 2.0.2 Build 58474, both dated October 7, 2024.
The distinctions below are useful when comparing an old build guide with the launch rules. They document that release, rather than the current season’s skill values.
Dance of Knives Added a Moving, Channeled Attack
The new Cutthroat Agility skill launched with six charges and a one-second charge cooldown. Channeling consumed one charge per second, threw knives for 58% damage each, and granted 20% additional Movement Speed plus 10% Dodge Chance while active.
- Enhanced Dance: moving 30 meters while channeling restored four charges.
- Methodical Dance: ending the channel dropped up to 12 Stun Grenades, each dealing 20% Weapon Damage; the channel’s duration determined the number.
- Disciplined Dance: knives slowed enemies by 25% for three seconds and had a 20% chance to pierce.
This made movement part of the skill’s sustain loop, not just travel between attacks. The two final upgrades offered different effects: a channel-ending grenade payoff or slowing and piercing knives.
Melee and Stealth Changes Altered Several Familiar Buttons
| Skill or upgrade | Rule in the 2.0.1 launch notes |
|---|---|
| Enhanced Blade Shift | Passing through enemies refreshed its active duration; its 20% Movement Speed remained. |
| Fundamental Blade Shift | Casting another skill empowered the next Blade Shift for 100%[x] more damage. |
| Invigorating Strike | Base damage rose from 30% to 35%. |
| Enhanced Invigorating Strike | Its Energy-regeneration bonus rose from 30% to 50%. |
| Fundamental Invigorating Strike | Its life threshold for causing Vulnerable changed from 85% to 95%. |
| Disciplined Shadow Step | Shadow Step gained 200%[x] damage; casting it reduced its cooldown by three seconds. |
| Concealment | The base skill also granted Unhindered. |
| Subverting Concealment | The attack breaking Concealment became a guaranteed Critical Strike and caused Vulnerable for six seconds. |
| Countering Concealment | Casting Concealment granted 10% Dodge Chance and increased its Movement Speed bonus to 60%[+] for five seconds. |
| Prime Shadow Clone | Casting Shadow Clone granted both Stealth and Unstoppable for five seconds. |
The Concealment upgrades are particularly easy to confuse in an older guide. Subverting supplied the guaranteed critical hit and Vulnerable attack, while Countering supplied the Dodge and movement benefits.
Rain of Arrows Moved Knockdown into the Base Skill
The first wave’s three-second knockdown became a baseline effect. Supreme Rain of Arrows instead added 60%[x] damage against Crowd Controlled enemies. Prime’s Imbuement bonus increased from 30% to 50%.
Word of Hakan also changed: its Imbuement Skill ranks rose from 2–3 to 4–6, and its double-cast affix became double damage for Rain of Arrows. An extra cast and a stronger cast describe different effects, even when both improve the same skill.
Victimize Had Both a Redesign and a Scaling Fix
The launch description retained a Lucky Hit chance of up to 50% when dealing direct damage to a Vulnerable enemy. Its explosion used a 60% damage value and gained a multiplier based on 120%[x] of the character’s Vulnerable Damage Bonus.
Blizzard also described less frequent explosions that stored damage from intervening triggers for the next explosion. The bug-fix section separately corrected Victimize’s Vulnerable Damage scaling to match its listed value.
These are different changes: one describes how the passive resolves damage and triggers; the other corrects an implementation problem. The notes do not establish a universal percentage increase to an entire Rogue build’s damage.
Five New Passives Had Specific Conditions
| New passive | Launch effect |
|---|---|
| Alchemical Admixture | Dealing three different non-physical damage types increased Imbuement potency by 40% for five seconds, with further scaling from 20% of the combined Poison, Shadow and Cold bonus damage. |
| Target Practice | Marksman and Cutthroat skills gained 3/6/9%[+] Critical Strike Chance. |
| Balestra | Using Evade granted 4/8/12%[x] damage for four seconds. |
| Evasive | Dodging an attack granted 2/4/6% Damage Reduction for four seconds. |
| Unto Dawn | Ultimate skill damage increased by 15/30/45%[x]. |
Balestra and Evasive used different triggers. Pressing Evade activated Balestra’s damage benefit; Evasive required actually dodging an attack. Treating both as automatic effects of the Evade button would misread the launch rules.
New Equipment and Paragon Effects Supported the Changes
Pitfighter’s Gull was the new Unique ring. Its Smoke Grenade interaction created a shadow cloud that repeatedly granted Stealth while the character remained inside. Its listed affixes included Critical Strike Chance, damage after entering Stealth, Smoke Grenade cooldown reduction and Mending Obscurity ranks.
The new Danse Macabre Paragon node increased the next skill’s damage by 50%[x] after using a Mobility or Subterfuge skill. Aspect of Star Shards added shattering projectiles to Dance of Knives and let that skill spend Combo Points for up to three additional charges beyond its maximum.
Agile Augments and Assassin Augments were real tempering recipe names in these notes. Their entries applied to named skills and effects; neither was a blanket chance for every Rogue attack to cast twice.
Patch 2.0.2’s Five Rogue Fixes Were Listed Separately
- Advanced Flurry stacks could be lost after healing, evading or certain automatic skill casts.
- Aspect of Poisonous Clouds could trigger Lucky Hits.
- Scoundrel’s Kiss Rapid Fire had mismatched visual and actual impact areas.
- Dance of Knives could have a shorter duration than intended.
- Repeated attempts to use Dance of Knives without charges could leave it unable to be cast.
Those fixes help explain why a launch-day interaction could differ from a preview. They should remain attached to the October 2024 patch history when comparing later versions.
