Season 6 Moved Glyph Upgrades from Nightmare Dungeons to the Pit
Diablo 4's 2.0 launch redesigned Paragon Glyph progression around Pit upgrade attempts. This is a historical Season 6 reference. It distinguishes the final October 7, 2024 patch rules from earlier previews, rather than treating every published preview number as final.
The 2.0.1 launch notes set the Glyph cap at 100, removed Magic Glyphs and moved Glyph progression out of Nightmare Dungeons. The final Legendary conversion milestone was rank 46, with Gem Fragments required.
The Important Rank Milestones
Radius changes and Legendary conversion are separate milestones.

The official German Season 6 explanation identifies the rank-15 enlargement. Older previews also described Legendary conversion at 45; the later final patch notes establish 46.
The added major affix depends on the selected Glyph. Do not read one displayed Critical Strike Damage value as a universal bonus awarded by every Legendary Glyph.
Attempts, Success Chance and Bonus Ranks Are Different Things
The October 2 Season 6 announcement described the attempt rules after the earlier 2.0 PTR explanation:
- Attempts earned
Successfully completing Artificer's Mastery awarded three upgrade attempts, with a fourth for a deathless run. Each attempt could target a Glyph that had not reached its cap.
- Guaranteed upgrade threshold
A completed Pit tier at least 10 above the Glyph's current rank guaranteed an upgrade. Compare with the Glyph rank, not the character's level or Paragon level.
- Additional ranks per attempt
Each 20-level gap between the completed Pit tier and the Glyph's current rank granted an additional upgrade rank per attempt.
Below the guaranteed threshold, consult the panel's displayed success chance. The screenshot's percentage belongs to its selected Glyph and completed tier; it is not a fixed chance for every run.
Recheck the Gap After the Glyph Gains Ranks
The official example contains a useful pair of consecutive steps: in a Pit 30 run, a Glyph goes from 9 to 11, then from 11 to 12. The first gap is 21, enough for a bonus rank; the next gap is 19, so that extra-rank threshold is no longer met.
One completed run therefore does not freeze the Glyph's starting rank for all remaining attempts. As the rank rises, the gap shrinks. Likewise, earning four attempts is different from guaranteeing the same number of ranks from every attempt.
For planning, separate the questions: can the run earn the deathless attempt, does the selected Glyph remain in the guaranteed range, and is the tier gap large enough to add ranks? The panel and the Glyph's updated rank answer those questions more reliably than an incomplete fixed-run progression table.
