A Selig-Based Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian
The original Immortal Heart Barbarian used Melted Heart of Selig to support a resource-driven defensive loop, with Hammer of the Ancients for damage. Jezartroz’s December 3, 2023 announcement described this particular endgame setup before Abattoir of Zir opened.
This is a Season 2 build overview. The original Abattoir event ran December 5, 2023–January 23, 2024; its historical equipment and resource interactions need to be read within that period.
The Actual Unique Equipment Package
The announcement treated three Uber Uniques as essentially required for its version and strongly recommended a fourth:
| Item | Role and requirement in that version |
|---|---|
| Melted Heart of Selig | Required: resource-based damage protection and the Fury-spending engine. |
| The Grandfather | Required: Critical Strike Damage. |
| Harlequin Crest | Required: damage reduction and skill ranks. |
| Doombringer | Strongly recommended: extra damage, Maximum Life and self-healing. |
Starlight Aspect and Warbringer supported the Life, Fury and Fortify cycle. Ring of Red Furor connected repeated Fury spending to Hammer of the Ancients Critical Strikes. The source also named Vocalized Empowerment and Voracious Rage as alternative Fury-generating Aspects.
These were the dependencies of that specific Selig variant. A different Hammer of the Ancients setup could have a different equipment plan; copying the attack alone did not supply this defensive engine.
Two Patch Boundaries Matter for Selig
December 5, 2023 — Patch 1.2.3a: Blizzard stopped Selig’s resource drain counting as resource spending in PvP to address performance issues. The official note explicitly limited that change to PvP contexts, so it should not be generalized into a simultaneous removal of the PvE interaction.
January 23, 2024 — Patch 1.3.0: Blizzard reworked Selig’s power. Maximum Resource rose from 30 to 60. The old conversion drained three Resource per 1% Life that would have been lost; the replacement diverted 75% of incoming damage into a drain of two Resource per 1% Life that would have been lost.
Those are historical versions of the item. The matching resource behavior is part of evaluating a Season 2 demonstration, alongside the character’s gear and activity. An older build name does not establish how a later item version performs.
How to Read the “Immortal” Label
“Immortal Heart” was the build’s nickname. Its source emphasized both strong defenses and heavy equipment dependence; the name alone did not guarantee survival in every encounter.
