Historical Builds for the Five Season 2 Classes
Diablo 4’s original Abattoir of Zir builds belonged to Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue and Sorcerer. This directory points to documented Season 2 examples and explains the dependencies behind them.
The original event ran December 5, 2023–January 23, 2024. Blizzard’s event announcement placed it in the Seasonal Realm and recommended level-100 characters. The links below are historical references for that event.
| Class | Documented build and reference | Dependency to understand |
|---|---|---|
| Barbarian | Immortal Heart / Hammer of the Ancients — December 2023 announcement. | Melted Heart of Selig and a highly specific Unique equipment package. |
| Druid | Septadot Wolf — November 2023 announcement. | X’Fal’s Corroded Signet, damage-over-time effects and dense enemy groups. |
| Necromancer | Infinimist Shadow — dedicated Season 2 AoZ guide. | Lucky Hit and cooldown reduction supporting Blood Mist. |
| Rogue | Flurry / Rapid Fire — historical AoZ overview. | Two Core attacks and a Tibault’s Will interaction that was later fixed. |
| Sorcerer | Ball Lightning — dedicated Season 2 AoZ guide. | Mana sustain, cooldown management, Prodigy’s Aspect and Gravitational Aspect. |
The two dedicated Icy Veins AoZ guides retain skill allocations, equipment and Paragon sections. The Barbarian and Druid links are dated announcements describing those builds, so they are useful for identifying the historical version and its requirements.
Gear Requirements Could Matter More than the Build Name
The Immortal Heart Barbarian announcement described a version essentially requiring Melted Heart of Selig, The Grandfather and Harlequin Crest, with Doombringer strongly recommended. Its Selig, Starlight Aspect and Warbringer interactions supported the Life/Fury/Fortify loop. That was a specific equipped character, rather than a result available from assigning Hammer of the Ancients alone.
The Infinimist guide built around repeatedly reaching Blood Mist through cooldown reduction and Lucky Hits against cursed enemies. It used Decrepify, Corpse Tendrils and Bone Storm within that setup; its gear section prioritized cooldown reduction and Lucky Hit. Those dependencies explain why copying only a skill bar leaves important parts of the build missing.
Fast Packs and Final Targets Were Different Tests
The Septadot Wolf announcement explicitly warned of slower single-target elites and bosses. Dense groups offered more opportunities for X’Fal’s procs, while Blood Howl’s per-kill cooldown reduction depended on enemies actually dying. A strong crowd demonstration therefore did not establish the same performance against an isolated boss.
The Ball Lightning AoZ guide separated farming and pushing variants: Teleport Enchantment favored travel, while Ball Lightning Enchantment emphasized damage and Lucky Hit for pushing. It also warned that survival suffered when defensive skills or crowd control were inactive. Compare the complete variant before treating footage of one setup as evidence for another.
For the Rogue example, the separate Tibault’s Will fix explanation identifies the January 2024 patch boundary. Old seasonal mechanics and fixed bugs are part of understanding these references; they are not a current tier ranking.
