Five Bosses Appeared in the Original Season 2 Model Gallery
Duriel, the Beast in the Ice, Grigoire, Lord Zir and Echo of Varshan each appeared in the Patch 1.2.0 gallery published on October 17, 2023. Jezartroz’s original Wowhead article presented the datamined models; this reference identifies the visible designs and links every source image.
Model turnarounds make details visible from several angles without the arena, lighting or combat effects obscuring them. They show the character assets, rather than the timing or behavior of an encounter.
Identify Each Boss by Its Silhouette
| Boss | Visible identifying features | Original model image |
|---|---|---|
| Duriel, King of Maggots | Heavy rounded abdomen, horned head, short lower limbs and large blade-like forearms. | View Duriel from four angles |
| The Beast in the Ice | Large wings, curved horns and blue-white spikes across the head and body. | View the Beast from four angles |
| Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint | Gold-trimmed armor, skull-like face, broad shoulders and a long patterned cloak. | View Grigoire from four angles |
| Lord Zir | Crown and red jewel, with both robed and winged appearances in the gallery. | View the robed Lord Zir |
| Echo of Varshan | Thin humanoid shape, long chains, ragged lower garment and pale strands sweeping from the head. | View Varshan from four angles |
These cues are visible in the linked images. They help identify a model in an old screenshot without assigning attacks, resistances or hidden phases based on appearance alone.
The Beast’s Wings and Spikes Stand Out from Every Angle
The Beast’s front and back views make its broad wing silhouette particularly clear. Blue-white projections continue across the head, shoulders, wings and legs, so the cold visual theme is visible beyond the color of the body.

Duriel has a contrasting silhouette: a much rounder body and prominent forearm blades. Its full turnaround is linked in the identification table, while the article cover shows a closer crop of that model.
Grigoire’s Back View Reveals the Cloak Detail
The front view emphasizes the armor and skull-like face; the rear view reveals the long red-purple cloak, its gold border and repeated motifs. The model’s shoulder pieces also become easier to distinguish from the side.

The repeated views let you compare the face, shoulder silhouette and cloak separately. Together, those elements distinguish Grigoire’s armored outline from the organic shapes of Duriel and the Beast.
Lord Zir Had Five Images in the Published Gallery
The source included a robed, crowned figure and multiple views of a winged form. The crown and red jewel provide a visual connection across the different presentations.
Alongside the robed turnaround linked in the table, the gallery contains an angled winged view, a closer crouched view, an outstretched turnaround and a crouched turnaround. These are model presentations; their order does not by itself establish an encounter phase sequence.
Varshan’s Chains and Head Shape Identify the Returning Boss
Echo of Varshan has a thin torso, visible chains and a ragged lower garment. The side and rear views show the long, pale shapes extending from its head more clearly than the front view.

The pale markings across the arms and upper body add another identifying detail. The open hands and hanging chains are easiest to compare in the front and angled views.
The Boss System Had Its Own Official Requirements
Blizzard’s Season of Blood overview described the actual encounter requirements separately, including Living Steel for Grigoire, body parts for Varshan and Distilled Fear with a crafted sigil for the Beast in the Ice.
Use that dated system description for the original Season 2 access rules. Use this gallery for the models: five boss identities, their visible details and the complete set of source-image links.
