Patch 1.2.2 Added Five Malignant Rings During Season of Blood
Diablo 4 Patch 1.2.2, Build 46837, released for all platforms on November 7, 2023. Its headline addition was five class-specific Malignant Rings, bringing selected powers from Season of the Malignant into Unique items available in Seasonal and Eternal realms.
This historical patch reference uses Blizzard’s released notes. It covers the documented additions and fixes, with the subsequent 1.2.2a hotfix dated separately.
The New Content Was a Set of Unique Items
The rings supported the five existing classes: Barbarian, Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue and Necromancer. The complete Malignant Ring reference identifies each item and its original trigger.
Their triggers served different purposes: spending Fury, dealing elemental damage, casting an Ultimate, using a Subterfuge skill or automating equipped corpse skills. The matching class and skill setup determined whether a ring’s effect could contribute to a build.
The Sanguine Battery Event Changed in Two Ways
| Event property | Before | Patch 1.2.2 |
|---|---|---|
| Pillar health | 75% | 85% |
| Pillar repair time | 3 seconds | 1 second |
The shorter repair time reduced how long a player needed to spend repairing the pillar during the event. These event adjustments applied independently of which ring or class the player used.
Seasonal Fixes Addressed Movement, Cooldowns and Progression
The released notes included these specific fixes:
- Metamorphosis had failed to trigger temporary movement-speed bonuses.
- Anticipation’s Ultimate cooldown reduction had failed to display while in town.
- Hectic had failed to reduce cooldowns for skills with charges.
- The Battle of Fear and Faith quest could be completed before Chapter 3 of the Season Journey.
Anticipation’s entry specifically concerned the displayed cooldown while in town. It did not say the power’s cooldown reduction was absent in every combat situation. Hectic’s fix concerned skills with charges, rather than a general increase to its cooldown reduction.
Additional Fixes Had Specific Conditions
Blizzard also fixed an issue preventing Lord Zir from respawning if a player left and re-entered his boss area too quickly. Another fix addressed the inventory-full notification appearing unexpectedly.
Patch 1.2.2a Followed with a Stash-Crash Fix
The official archive dates 1.2.2a, Build 47002 for all platforms, to November 8, 2023. It fixed a crash that could occur when viewing a seasonal stash.
For a player encountering that specific crash after the ring update, 1.2.2a was the relevant follow-up. The November 7 content patch and November 8 stability fix were separate releases.
Use This as a Dated Release Record
The details here explain the original November 2023 update. Later seasons changed items, progression and endgame systems, so this patch’s mechanics should remain attached to 1.2.2.
For the complete list of fixes, use the 1.2.2 heading in Blizzard’s linked archive. It distinguishes the update from the later hotfix and from the older 1.2.1 notes on the same page.
