A Season of Blood Build, Not an Upcoming Activity
The Bone Spear Necromancer covered here was prepared for Diablo 4’s original Abattoir of Zir event in Season 2. That event ran from December 5, 2023 to January 23, 2024. This page explains the historical build announcement and its assumptions; it is not a current-season skill or Paragon allocation.
Blizzard’s BlizzCon Campfire recap specified a limited Seasonal Realm event after the final Season Journey tier, aimed at highly developed characters. The rewards lasted until the end of Season of Blood. The name should not be confused with farming the separate Lord Zir boss.
What the Original Bone Spear Announcement Proposed
Wowhead’s December 2, 2023 announcement by PopularTopular introduced its AoZ variant before the event opened. The performance testing described there belongs to that source, rather than to WowCarry.
Its plan connected Bone Spear damage with Critical Strike/Vulnerable scaling and Essence management. It highlighted Splintering Aspect, Aspect of Torment and resource-cost reductions, with Paragon support for recovering Essence on kills. Those are interacting parts of an old setup, not evidence that putting one named Aspect on any character creates unlimited casts.
The distinction is practical: a resource return that requires kills cannot be evaluated from the cost of a single cast alone. Compare the skill cost, the effect’s trigger and the enemies actually available. A boss encounter and a crowded dungeon can feed the same resource loop very differently.
What Changed for the AoZ Variant?
The original preview emphasized survival as well as damage and offered versions with and without its two rare uniques. Keep the source’s equipment assumptions attached to its claims.
| Part of the preview | What was documented | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Rare uniques | Harlequin Crest and Ring of Starless Skies were included, with alternatives planned for players missing them. | Both items were not a universal entry requirement for AoZ. |
| Defense | The author reported a substantial increase in armor and life over the standard version. | Those old character totals are not a current armor cap or a guaranteed result for another setup. |
| Tears of Blood | The preview reported testing without the event glyph. | Pre-release performance without the glyph did not establish every later AoZ-tier outcome. |
| Duriel footage | An 11-second level-97 boss kill illustrated the Season 2 damage setup. | A separate boss clip did not demonstrate an AoZ clear, its survival demands or a repeatable player benchmark. |
The preview’s optional-item version and ordinary-item version had different assumptions. Check which version a particular example uses before comparing its result with your character.

The linked announcement points to Wowhead’s skill, equipment, Paragon and Vampiric Power sections. Check the season and revision date of any destination before using it: a maintained build page may now describe a later version of Diablo 4.
Vampiric Powers and the event’s Tears of Blood glyph belong to Season of Blood. They are not a current unlock checklist for an Eternal Realm or later seasonal character.
Historical coverage reviewed October 24, 2026 against Blizzard’s event announcement and Wowhead’s dated build preview. No new gameplay test is claimed.
