Cosmic Barding Comes From Oizys, or Another Player
Cosmic Barding is a chocobo appearance set introduced in FFXIV Patch 7.41. You can obtain it as a Cosmic Fortune prize on Oizys, or buy the tradeable item on the market board.
A regular Fortune attempt costs 1,000 Oizys credits. That pays for a chance at a prize, rather than a guaranteed barding purchase. Cosmocredits, lunar credits and Phaenna credits are not interchangeable with those Oizys credits.
The official item record identifies Cosmic Barding as an appearance item modeled after a cosmosuit. It is not a new mount to unlock or armor for your character.
Choose Between Earning a Prize and Buying the Item

Choose Fortune if you already enjoy the missions and want its wider prize pool. If the barding is your only goal, compare a current listing with how much time you want to spend earning credits. Repeated attempts do not make the next draw a guaranteed success.
Unlock Oizys Before Looking for Its Fortune NPC
If you already have Oizys access, skip the earlier unlock chain and travel there. Otherwise, follow the Cosmic Exploration sidequests:
- Start Cosmic Exploration: complete the main scenario quest Endwalker and have a Disciple of the Hand or Land at level 10. Accept A Cosmic Homecoming from Namingway in Old Sharlayan (X:12.6, Y:13.6).
- Progress to Phaenna: after Passion, Thy Name Is Ardorum, accept Go Forth, Brave Explorers from Searchingway in Sinus Ardorum (X:20.4, Y:20.0). Continue the Cosmic Exploration quest chain through The Brightest Star.
- Unlock Oizys: accept Mission of Gravity from Searchingway on Phaenna (X:27.2, Y:13.8), again on a level-10-or-higher crafter or gatherer.
The 7.41 notes confirm that players who missed the earlier development of Sinus Ardorum or Phaenna can still reach Oizys through the quests. Cosmic Exploration quest progression must be undertaken on your Home World.
Once unlocked, select Oizys through Drivingway in Mare Lamentorum (X:21.9, Y:13.2), near the Bestways Burrow aetheryte. Cruisingway on an unlocked star also offers travel to other destinations.
Use Oizys Credits at Orbitingway
Go to Orbitingway on Oizys (X:18.3, Y:24.5). Square Enix’s Cosmic Exploration guide lists the Fortune NPC separately for each star; visiting the one on another star is not equivalent.
- Earn Oizys credits from the star’s stellar missions and projects.
- Open Orbitingway’s Cosmic Fortune choices and inspect their prize lists. Select the roulette that includes Cosmic Barding.
- Spend 1,000 Oizys credits for a regular attempt. Continue only while you are comfortable with the random rewards.
- If you obtain the barding, use the item and select its pieces in your Companion menu.
Meoni’s original January 27 showcase demonstrates this barding and describes the 1,000-credit draw and market-board alternative. It does not establish a guaranteed drop rate or a fixed number of attempts.
What to Check on the Market Board
Search for Cosmic Barding by its exact name. Compare current listings and recent sale history for the market you can access. A seller’s asking price and the price at which items recently sold are different signals.
There is no universal gil price to plan around. Supply changes, and a launch-week prediction about falling prices is not a current quote. Buy the item for the appearance if the available price suits your budget; the official record’s lack of an NPC purchase does not prevent a player listing.
Use the Item, Then Select All Three Appearance Slots
Owning the barding in your inventory does not automatically change your chocobo’s outfit. Square Enix’s barding UI instructions give the sequence:
- Select the inventory item and choose Use from its subcommand menu.
- Open Character → Companion → Appearance.
- Select Cosmic Barding for the head, body and legs if you want the complete suit.
Each slot is independent, so you can mix the helmet or other pieces with bardings you already own. If your chocobo only partly matches the preview, check all three slots before assuming the item is missing.
Barding is purely cosmetic and does not alter your companion’s attributes. The white shell, transparent helmet, orange saddle and space-themed pack are visual details; the decorative booster does not give a movement-speed upgrade.
