Choose the Eye You Want to Cover
Blindfold Eyepatch (Left) and Blindfold Eyepatch (Right) are separate FFXIV Facewear appearances. Each is learned by using its matching The Faces We Wear periodical. Obtain the left item to cover the left eye, or the right item to cover the right; one copy does not teach both.
Square Enix lists both periodicals in the Patch 7.4 item additions. They come from Free Company subaquatic voyages and can also be traded. If you only want the appearance, check the Market Board before committing to submarine progression.
Where Submarines Can Bring Back the Periodicals
Community voyage records list both sides in these Northern Empty sectors. Rank is an entry requirement, not a promise of a particular reward. The surveillance values are the reward-tier thresholds reported by the FFXIV Submarine Info project, rather than an official drop-rate guarantee.

Eastern Blackblood Wells was the Patch 7.4 source. Central Den of the Greatsword belongs to the later Patch 7.5 voyage expansion, when the official notes raised the submersible rank cap to 145. It was not a second sector available at the original 7.4 launch.
To farm through voyages, coordinate with the players who operate your Free Company’s workshop and have permission to dispatch its submersibles. They need the sector unlocked and a suitable vessel. This is not a personal retainer venture or a duty you can queue for.
Both periodicals share possible reward pools. Neither side has a documented guaranteed voyage count, and you do not have to plan a special “left run” followed by a “right run.” Ask the operator to check returned loot and your company’s distribution rules before arranging another trip.
Buying the Correct Unlock
Search the full item name, including Blindfold and (Left) or (Right). Mythril-edged, Studded and Ornamented Leather Eyepatches are different appearances. Compare the two sides separately; a listing for one does not include the other, and prices depend on the World and available supply.
The official database entries for the left periodical and the right periodical say “Available for Purchase: No.” That means no listed NPC purchase. The accompanying 1,000-gil figure is the amount an NPC pays when you sell the item, not its Market Board price.
Learn It, Then Apply It in Facewear
- Use the matching periodical from your inventory.
- Open Character → Facewear, or select the dedicated Facewear equipment slot.
- Choose the unlocked side and a color offered by the interface.
- Inspect it with your actual hairstyle and headgear before finalizing the outfit.
The Facewear system instructions explain that these appearances occupy their own slot. They do not replace your combat helmet. A separate slot does not guarantee that every hat, hairstyle or face covering will display without overlap.
If it seems missing, check whether the periodical is still unused in your bag and whether you learned the opposite side. Check the collection before buying another copy of an appearance already unlocked.
