Patch 7.4 Quality of Life Enhancements

Patch 7.4, titled "Into the Mist," for Final Fantasy 14 Online brings a myriad of quality-of-life changes. These improvements range from minor tweaks to significant updates, covering various aspects of the game like cosmic exploration, deep dungeons, crafting, gathering, and social interactions.

General Improvements

A key highlight is the introduction of the "Repair All" option. Previously, players had to individually repair each item through a tedious dropdown menu. Now, a single button click can repair all items across every slot on a character. This long-awaited feature significantly enhances gameplay efficiency.

Another noteworthy change is the ability to teleport directly to Phantom Village. This is particularly useful for players working on relic weapons or traveling to specific locations such as a Court Crescent from Tulal. Provided that players have unlocked all Ethernet shards in Tulal, they can now teleport directly to Phantom Village if they have previously visited it, bypassing NPCs and saving time.

Cosmic Exploration and Stellar Missions

Cosmic exploration has seen enhancements with new ethers available on the moon and Fyenna, with plans to add them on the new planet Oise from January 6 as part of Patch 7.41. These improvements will streamline traversing various locations, especially during missions.

For Stellar Missions, a new reward system has been introduced based on consecutive gold star completions on the same star:

  1. Two gold stars: 5% reward bonus
  2. Three gold stars: 10% reward bonus
  3. Four gold stars: 15% reward bonus
  4. Five gold stars: 20% reward bonus
  5. Six gold stars (superstar): 30% reward bonus

These rewards apply to class A or higher stellar missions and will reset after achieving superstar status. Additional enhancements include notifications for missions that require expert recipes and an exclamation mark over the NPC AROT during an active mech directive. Players can now also navigate directly to mission sites during red alerts and toggle initiative progress notifications in cosmic exploration areas.

Emotes and Social Features

Emotes have received subtle yet effective updates. An icon now indicates if an emote can be used with the torch accessory—a recently added item—and various cheer emotes have been renamed and recolored for better differentiation. This change improves the clarity and usability of emotes, enhancing the social aspect of the game.

Deep Dungeon and Inventory Management

Players exploring deep dungeons, especially in Pilgrim's Traverse, will appreciate new inventory management features. Completing a challenge log objective with a full inventory no longer results in lost rewards. Instead, items are temporarily stored in a loot list, preserving crucial resources like oils.

Players can also safely disconnect outside of combat and rejoin within 10 minutes without forfeiting progress, a useful change given recent server instability issues. However, if a player disconnects while another is KO'ed, it will still count as a wipe.

Variant and Criterion Modes

In preparation for the upcoming variant mode map in Patch 7.45, a new skill, Variant Eagle Eye Shot, has been added for tanks, healers, and DPS roles. This skill scales with item level and provides off-global cooldown damage, enhancing strategic gameplay.

The labeling of variant and criterion content has been updated, and the record windows now display green indicators for new entries, streamline tracking progress towards mount achievements.

Trust and Glamour Improvements

A significant update to duty support and trust content introduces the "Willful" status effect, enhancing AI survivability. Players can survive lethal damage once per stack, followed by full healing post-battle. This effect is currently limited to specific duties but may expand in future patches.

Glamour received substantial updates with the introduction of unrestricted systems and the ability to store partial outfit sets. This change allows for greater flexibility and ease in customizing character appearances.

Glamour and Crafting Enhancements

The glamour system in Patch 7.4 offers players new ways to manage their inventory efficiently. With a new filter, players can now identify which stored items can be sorted into outfits. This addition is especially useful since expansions to the glamour dresser's capacity won’t occur until after Patch 7.5. Although space issues persist, these adjustments make the glamour dresser more manageable.

Crafting also sees improvements with the removal of confirmation prompts for extracting materials, streamlining the spirit bonding process. The Trial Synthesis feature brings further convenience:

  1. Set starting quality and condition to be always normal.
  2. Automatically reopens the synthesis window after completion.
  3. Ability to quicksynthesize normal quality items only.

These updates facilitate smoother crafting, reducing unnecessary steps and improving efficiency.

Gathering Quality of Life Changes

Patch 7.4 introduces several noteworthy enhancements for gatherers:

  • The ability to change bait while mounted streamlines the fishing experience, especially in expansive areas like the moon or other planets.
  • Precision and powerful hook set effects now only display when relevant, allowing better focus on actual opportunities.
  • Reduced post-gathering immobility time enhances the transition between gathering nodes, providing more time for other activities.

Moreover, gatherers can now opt to receive only normal quality items when disenchanting, catering to specific inventory needs.

These quality of life changes, though subtle, significantly enhance the gameplay experience, accumulating into notable improvements throughout the expansion. Patch 7.4 might not be the most groundbreaking, but the cumulative effect of these adjustments elevates the overall journey.
