OSRS Hardcore Worlds: Prepare for November 4

Old School RuneScape's Hardcore Worlds are announced for November 4, 2026. Jagex's RuneFest overview describes a permanent, separate economy with trading and Grand Exchange access, normal XP/drop rates and a fresh character's single-life challenge. This is a different proposition from importing an established character or playing ordinary Hardcore Ironman.

Choose your objective before choosing your first risky activity. A player determined to keep trying until a milestone and a player who wants to continue the character after death may make different equipment decisions. Both should understand the death outcome before carrying their best items.

Joining Starts on Tutorial Island

In the October 22 rules preview, a fresh character visits Death's Delegate near the Magic Instructor and Paul, enters Death's Office and accepts the challenge.

“Fresh character” does not establish a new Jagex Account requirement. The reviewed announcement supplies no opening hour or world numbers. Keep the date in your plan, then check the launch instructions before arranging a precise start with friends.

Check the Activity's Death Rules Before Entering

Hardcore Group Ironman death rules apply. Unsafe activities include:

  • Barbarian Assault; Camelot Training Room; Chambers of Xeric
  • Lunar Diplomacy's Dream World; Fishing Trawler; Inferno
  • Magic Training Arena; Nightmare Zone; Pest Control
  • Random Events; Rogues' Den; TzHaar Fight Cave; player-owned houses

Exceptions include Castle/Clan/Soul Wars, Fight Pit, Koschei's fourth duel phase, and the Karamja Elite Fight Caves / Western Provinces Elite Zulrah resurrection rewards.

Read those exceptions narrowly. A particular diary resurrection or quest phase does not make the entire activity safe. If a route relies on an exception, confirm the relevant unlock and situation before putting the character at risk. Familiarity with an activity on another mode is not enough.

Death Gives a Choice: Reset or Transfer

ResetEverything wiped, including protected items. Unlimited retries.
TransferContinue in the main game with protected items, bank and storage. No return to Hardcore Worlds.

Grave-bound items disappear; Wilderness PvP follows normal loot rules. Transfer therefore does not rescue gear already lost on death.

Before a trip, inspect Items Kept on Death with the equipment you actually intend to carry. Separate two questions: what the death itself would remove, and whether you would then restart or continue elsewhere. Banking an item changes what you are carrying; it does not preserve that bank if you choose a complete reset.

Launch Rules and Later Proposals Are Different

Bounty Hunter and Last Man Standing start disabled. An Escape Crystal is planned for starters; cheaper crystals, a Death vendor and status cleansing are proposals. New World Switcher filters target late November.

Do not base a launch-day escape plan on a proposed improvement. Check the crystal behavior available in the actual client and understand its activation conditions before relying on it during a dangerous session.

Individual Hardcore-status restoration is ruled out; mass incidents receive separate review. A support request is therefore not a replacement for deciding how much progress and equipment you are willing to risk.
