Fire Led the Upper-Percentile View; Beast Mastery Needed More Context

Fire Mage led both 95th-percentile damage charts for the week of April 2, 2024. Feral Druid led both all-percentile chart orders. Beast Mastery Hunter offered a particularly clear reason to check both views: eleventh for 95th-percentile boss damage, but twentieth in the all-percentile boss-damage order.

This is Week 26 of the Wrath Classic Icecrown Citadel reporting series, published by Anshlun on April 10, 2024. The capture is a historical weekly view of recorded raid damage.

The screenshots select Heroic, 25-player ICC, all bosses, DPS, all item levels, a one-week range and normalized-score aggregation. The partition is labeled Phase 4.5. Overall damage and damage to bosses each have a 95th-percentile chart and an all-percentile distribution chart.

Every Category in the Four Original Charts

Rows follow 95th-percentile overall damage. The remaining columns give each category’s displayed position in its own view. The original Blood (DPS) Death Knight and Gladiator Warrior category names are retained.

Beast Mastery’s Higher-Percentile Position Was Not Its Broader Position

Beast Mastery placed twelfth in 95th-percentile overall damage and eleventh for boss damage. The all-percentile charts placed it twenty-first overall and twentieth for boss damage. A single ranking label would conceal that difference.

In the earlier March 26 Week 25 snapshot, Beast Mastery had been fourteenth overall and fifteenth for bosses at the 95th percentile, with nineteenth place in both broader charts. Its upper-percentile positions improved across those two weeks while its broader positions moved in the other direction.

That describes the recorded ordering. The static charts do not provide enough information to attribute the difference to a particular talent, item, patch or number of participating players. For a specific hunter, the next useful comparison would be an individual boss report with comparable conditions.

The Top Three Were Stable, but the Order Depended on the Metric

Fire, Fury and Feral occupied the first three positions in 95th-percentile overall damage, in the same order as the March 26 report. For damage to bosses, Feral was second and Fury third. In the broader charts, Feral was first, Fire second and Fury third.

Elsewhere, Destruction Warlock was nineteenth for overall damage and eighteenth for boss damage at the 95th percentile. Its all-percentile positions were sixteenth and seventeenth respectively. Comparing a category with itself across the four columns is more informative than assuming that its overall-damage position applies to every metric.

Use This Week’s Data for the Question It Can Answer

A normalized score is the chart’s aggregate comparison value, not raw DPS. Positions also do not encode percentage damage gaps. The all-percentile ordering belongs to a distribution chart, rather than a second 95th-percentile list.

For historical class comparisons, keep the April 2 week, Heroic difficulty, 25-player size and damage metric attached to the result. For an execution question, narrow the comparison to the relevant encounter and inspect the underlying report. Additional-target damage and boss damage can matter differently according to the task assigned during a fight.

The original static captures are available for 95th-percentile overall damage, 95th-percentile damage to bosses and all-percentile boss damage. The overall distribution is reproduced here to show the wider recorded spread.
