The Season 2 Build Revolved Around Repeated Rain of Arrows

Word of Hakan, Flickerstep and Rapid Fire gave the original Rain of Arrows Rogue three distinct jobs: empower the Ultimate, recover its cooldown and handle single targets. This explains the Season of Blood build highlighted on November 20, 2023, rather than a current-season skill allocation.

The original announcement by Wowhead’s Jezartroz described an Ultimate-focused alternative for endgame play. The core was more specific than simply adding Rain of Arrows to an otherwise unrelated setup.

Four Components and the Problem Each Solved

ComponentRole in the original setup
Rain of ArrowsThe main Ultimate attack, used repeatedly as its cooldown became available.
Word of HakanThe Unique amulet made Rain of Arrows benefit from all Imbuements at once.
FlickerstepThe Unique boots reduced an active Ultimate cooldown when Evading through enemies.
Rapid FireAn Imbuement-supported attack for concentrated single-target damage.

The source named Rapid Fire as the single-target support. Its role complemented the Ultimate’s broad coverage rather than replacing the build’s central Rain of Arrows plan.

Word of Hakan Supplied the Triple Imbuement

The amulet was the reason each Rain of Arrows cast could carry Poison, Shadow and Cold Imbuement together. This was an item interaction, not a universal property of every Rogue attack.

That difference matters when reconstructing the setup. The Rain of Arrows interaction described in the announcement came from equipping Word of Hakan; it should not be replaced with an assumption that three manually pressed Imbuement buttons gave all skills permanent triple Imbuement.

Flickerstep Turned Enemy Positioning into Cooldown Recovery

Blizzard introduced Flickerstep in Patch 1.2.0. The original boots reduced an active Ultimate cooldown by 2–4 seconds for each enemy Evaded through, with a listed cap of ten seconds.

The condition required passing through enemies while the Ultimate was on cooldown. Merely spending Evade in open space did not satisfy that interaction. A useful route therefore had to combine a safe movement path with enemies to pass through.

This created a positioning tradeoff: moving through a group could help recover Rain of Arrows, but the movement still had to leave the Rogue able to survive and continue attacking. Cooldown recovery was a benefit of the route, not a reason to ignore incoming attacks.

How the Original Loop Fit Together

  1. Use Rain of Arrows for broad pressure, with Word of Hakan supplying the combined Imbuements.
  2. Recover the active cooldown through appropriate movement, taking Flickerstep’s through-enemy condition into account.
  3. Use Rapid Fire for concentrated targets between Ultimate casts, with its own Imbuement support rather than assuming the amulet applied its Rain-specific effect to every attack.

This is a description of the build’s engine, not a universal rotation for every encounter. Enemy placement, available movement and survival needs determined whether a particular cooldown-recovery route made sense.

Keep the Original Build Separate from Later Planner Updates

The source linked a maintained Rain of Arrows guide. Its later equipment, Paragon and planner contents can change. They should not be copied back into a November 2023 setup without checking the version.

For the original item target pools, use the Season 2 Unique-to-boss reference. The archived build explanation here establishes the named components and their functions; it does not claim to reproduce an unavailable full 2023 point-by-point planner.
