Find the Original Season 2 Boss for a Specific Unique

The original five boss pools contained 65 distinct regular Unique names, plus seven Uber Uniques associated with Duriel. The tables here reorganize the October 2023 loot information by class and item, so you can see every listed target boss on the same row.

These are historical Season of Blood pools from Blizzard’s original loot slides, checked against the October 11 Wowhead tables and October 24 boss guide by James Carr. They do not describe later-season pools, current item affixes or drop probabilities.

Start with the all-class items, then your class. A listed boss is a target-farming source in this original system; the row does not promise an item on every kill or describe every possible world drop.

Duriel’s Seven Original Uber Uniques

The launch material used the term Uber Unique. Within this five-boss system, Blizzard identified Duriel as the encounter with a chance to drop these items. The class restrictions below also matter; a weapon was not automatically usable by every class.

The Season 2 Duriel walkthrough by Nathan Garvin also documents the item roster and class restrictions. It should likewise be read in its Season of Blood context.

The Duriel slide shows how the original material separated class-specific items, shared items and Uber Uniques. The full-resolution slides for all five encounters are available here:

The tables preserve all the regular-item assignments shown in those slides. The Butcher’s Cleaver appears in two class tables because both classes were listed, but it counts as one distinct item in the 65-name total.

Target Farming Still Required the Correct Encounter

Blizzard’s original system linked each boss to its own access materials. In World Tier IV, Grigoire and Varshan also provided the components needed to summon Duriel. Having an item on a desired loot list did not bypass those entry requirements.

For identifying the five encounters in old screenshots, use the Season 2 boss-model reference. Keep these October 2023 drop assignments attached to that original version when comparing them with later guides.
