Season of the Malignant Ended in October 2023
This is a historical rewards reference for Diablo 4 Season 1, July 20–October 17, 2023. That season’s earning window has closed. The original season’s Battle Pass, questline and Season Journey had separate reward conditions, and completing one did not automatically complete the others.
Blizzard’s Season of the Malignant announcement establishes its July launch. The Season of Blood overview documents the October transition and what happened to Season 1 characters and stash items. These are 2023 rules, not preparation instructions for the present season.
Which Reward Came from Which Activity?
The important distinction for collectors is between finishing the final Journey chapter and finishing every objective. The latter awarded a different title combination.
| Reward or progression | Original requirement | What it did not mean |
|---|---|---|
| Free Battle Pass rewards | Progress through the 27 free tiers among 90 total tiers. | The free track did not include every Premium cosmetic or Platinum reward. |
| Premium Battle Pass rewards | Activate Premium and progress through its reward tiers. | Buying Premium did not automatically complete the Season Journey. |
| Wrathful prefix and Heart suffix | Complete the Destroyer chapter’s required threshold: 6 of 8 objectives. | Every single Season Journey objective was not required for this pair. |
| Cormond’s prefix and Friend suffix | Complete every objective across the Season 1 Journey. | This was separate from meeting each chapter’s minimum. |
| Malignant prefix and Purifier suffix | Complete Cormond’s seasonal story and its Cormond’s Ally challenge. | This was not the all-objectives Journey reward. |
The contemporaneous Journey breakdown documents the Destroyer threshold. Wowhead’s full-completion title report identifies Cormond’s and Friend; its final quest walkthrough documents A Merciful Fate and the Cormond’s Ally challenge.
The Original Battle Pass Had 90 Tiers
Blizzard specified 27 free tiers and 63 Premium tiers. Premium added cosmetic armor, a mount, mount armor, Platinum and other rewards. The free track also contained Smoldering Ashes, spent on that season’s Blessings. Those temporary Blessing bonuses ended with Season of the Malignant.
Favor came from Season Journey progress and ordinary play. Choose activities that advance the relevant objectives together; the historical reward requirements do not establish a fastest farming method.
What Carried Forward and What Did Not
Seasonal characters moved to the Eternal Realm when the season ended. Blizzard’s transition instructions placed their seasonal stash contents in a Withdraw Only tab, with the following Season of Blood as the retrieval window. That historic deadline is not an open recovery window today.
Earned cosmetic title components are separate from temporary seasonal powers. The Season 1 opportunity to earn Cormond’s Friend ended, while Malignant Hearts and Season Blessings were temporary systems.

Use this page to identify what you earned and which historical objective awarded it. It does not establish a current route to the original Season 1 rewards or promise that an old pass will return. If a later official offer reintroduces a cosmetic, follow that offer’s own conditions.
