The Reported Guest Route Used an Eligible Host
A December 8, 2023 report described friends joining an eligible player’s Abattoir of Zir run even if they had not completed the Season Journey themselves. The eligible player had to be the one using the Bloodforged Sigil.
This was a reported group route during the original event. Blizzard’s announced Season 2 window was December 5, 2023–January 23, 2024.
How the Host-and-Guest Sequence Worked
In silec’s original Wowhead report, the sequence was:
- The qualified host used a Bloodforged Sigil. The host supplied eligibility for opening the run.
- The friend joined that run. Their unfinished Journey did not prevent this reported guest entry.
- The party completed the tier. The report described the guest receiving Tears of Blood and the Occultist recipe for the next tier.
Completion mattered. Blizzard’s original rules required killing enough enemies to summon the Bloodseekers and defeating them within ten minutes.
The Sigil, Glyph and Recipe Had Different Jobs
| Object | Role in the reported route |
|---|---|
| Bloodforged Sigil | The host used it to open the run. |
| Tears of Blood | A Paragon Glyph awarded through completion. It was a progression reward, rather than the item used to open the portal. |
| Next-tier recipe | Unlocked crafting of the following tier’s Sigil at the Occultist. Players still needed Sigil Powder to craft Sigils. |
This distinction explains the catch-up benefit: the guest gained a crafting unlock from a completed run. Simply receiving a Glyph was not the same action as using a Sigil.
A Higher-Tier Completion Pointed to the Next Recipe
The report specified the next tier’s recipe. Its contemporary discussion clarified that a Tier 10 completion gave the Tier 11 recipe, rather than every intermediate recipe. A high-tier visit therefore should not be read as a complete set of lower-tier crafting unlocks.
For the standard route to opening content yourself, the Season 2 Journey requirements explain the seven chapters and optional objectives. The historical strategy guide also covers the group failure condition and launch-week changes.
