Archive: The April 2024 Season 4 Planner Update

This is a historical feature report. On April 2, 2024, Wowhead announced that its Diablo 4 Build Planner included Season 4 PTR data for Patch 1.4.0. The update let players prepare test builds with that version's class skills, Unique items and Legendary Aspects. Wowhead owns and maintains the planner; this was not a WowCarry software release.

The associated Diablo 4 test window ran April 2–9, 2024. Blizzard's original PTR announcement identifies it as a PC Battle.net test ahead of Season 4. Those dates do not describe a currently open test realm.

What the Initial Update Included

The tool creator's April 2 announcement records the following scope. Read the missing-feature statements as the status of that initial implementation, not a description of the planner today.

Feature in the April 2024 announcementWhat that meant at the time
Patch 1.4.0 PTR class dataPlayers could plan around the test version’s changed skills.
PTR Uniques and AspectsThe planner exposed those test-version item and power choices for theorycrafting.
Greater AffixesThe initial implementation did not yet showcase them.
Tempered AffixesThe initial implementation did not yet showcase them.
Saved ideas after PTR closureWowhead said the planned builds could remain useful for reference after the test window.

Wowhead's original plan to add missing functionality was a statement from the tool's creator. It does not establish a delivery date or justify repeating “coming shortly” years later.

What This Announcement Did Not Establish

A planner update exposed data for experimentation. It did not demonstrate that every proposed interaction worked on the PTR, that all test numbers would reach the live game unchanged, or that a setup was the strongest option for a particular activity.

Blizzard described the PTR as a way to collect feedback and adjust Season 4 before release. Keep that distinction when reading old builds: planned selections, behavior observed on a test realm and final live behavior are separate pieces of evidence.

Before Reusing a Build Saved from That PTR

  • Read its version: establish whether the saved setup describes the April test, a later live patch or an updated seasonal guide.
  • Recheck enabling items: confirm the required powers and interactions exist on the version you intend to play.
  • Inspect item assumptions: an early plan that omitted affix systems is not a complete shopping list for a finished character.
  • Prefer an explained progression: identify how the author gets from starter gear to the final configuration before spending materials.

For a general method of comparing community setups, use the separate Wowhead community-build evaluation guide.
