Havoc Demon Hunter guide

Havoc is a melee Agility damage specialization built around Fury, frequent Eye Beam and Demonic windows, Blade Dance or Death Sweep, Chaos Strike or Annihilation, and unusually high movement. The Season 2 four-piece makes Essence Break part of every serious PvE build. Havoc also brings Chaos Brand, Darkness, an interrupt, a purge, crowd control, stealth detection, and strong personal mobility.

Key Takeaways

Use Fel-Scarred for general Mythic+, and reserve Aldrachi Reaver for practiced priority-damage or funnel plans.
In raid, use Aldrachi for controlled single target or funnel and Fel-Scarred for live cleave or a simpler progression baseline; no one tree wins every encounter.
The Season 2 four-piece makes Essence Break mandatory in PvE, so use it on cooldown unless Eye Beam is due within roughly four seconds.
For PvE gearing, prioritize meaningful item-level and weapon-DPS upgrades, then generally Critical Strike and Mastery, and simulate exact gear instead of chasing a fixed cap.
For rated PvP, prioritize PvP item level and then Versatility, Mastery, Haste, and Critical Strike because Aldrachi and Fel-Scarred serve different match plans.
Havoc's value is not only damage, so use Chaos Brand, Darkness, Consume Magic, Disrupt, Imprison, Chaos Nova, Sigil of Misery, Spectral Sight, and Vengeful Retreat proactively.

Season 2 tuning is region-gated
The August 25 damage and PvP defensive changes activate with scheduled weekly maintenance in each region. On August 27, Blizzard fixed an issue that let Blur's recent PvP adjustment affect PvE and restored its previous intended values outside PvP. Blizzard did not publish a replacement PvE percentage, so this guide does not invent one; Blur remains 15% in PvP after the regional August 25 tuning is active.

Start with Fel-Scarred for general keys because it is the easier burst-AoE baseline and dominated the first high-key adoption snapshot. Use Aldrachi Reaver when a coordinated group needs priority-target funnel and the player can execute Reaver's Glaive sequencing. Choose Soul Cleanse or Burn It Out for the dungeon and debuff plan instead of pasting one tree across the full pool.

Fel is the default; Aldrachi is the specialist
Fel-Scarred offers the cleaner general-key baseline through frequent burst AoE and easier execution. Aldrachi Reaver remains useful when a practiced group needs priority-target funnel, but its Glaive sequencing and pull-to-pull carryover demand deliberate play. Both presets still need dungeon-specific dispel and control swaps.

Keep two raid presets. Aldrachi Reaver is the controlled single-target or funnel recommendation from simulation-oriented specialist guidance. Fel-Scarred is the live-progression and cleave alternative when add damage, easier execution, or early live performance matters. Encounter targets and timing decide the choice, and early adoption does not prove higher theoretical throughput.

Fel-Scarred — Cleave

Fel-Scarred · DPS

The live-progression and burst-cleave alternative when add damage or easier execution matters. Early Heroic adoption strongly favors it, but that popularity is not proof of universal theoretical superiority.

Simulation and live logs answer different questions
Simulation-oriented guidance currently favors Aldrachi for a controlled single-target profile, while early Heroic adoption strongly favors Fel-Scarred. Boss mix, kill timing, gear, player selection, and familiarity prevent a causal comparison, so this guide preserves both raid presets instead of converting popularity into a universal winner.

Do not reuse the PvE tree or stat order in rated PvP. Aldrachi Reaver is the defensible Solo Shuffle and sustained-pressure baseline, while Fel-Scarred is a coordinated 3v3 burst option with lower sustained pressure. Battleground Blitz was close to split in the dated snapshot and needs its own recheck. Core PvP talents are Glimpse and Blood Moon, with Detainment commonly third and Reverse Magic as a matchup swap.

Agility #1 · Primary stat; meaningful item-level upgrades usually matter more than imperfect secondaries.Critical Strike #2 · General secondary direction; favored by Know Your Enemy.Mastery #3 · Usually close to Critical Strike and scales important Chaos damage.Haste #4 · Supports Demon Blades Fury generation and several cooldowns.Versatility #5 · Weakest raw-PvE secondary in the reviewed general profile; do not chase a fixed cap.

Tier set

Abyssal Doomhound's Pursuit — Current Season 2 class set
2-piece — Blade Dance, Chaos Strike, and Essence Break deal 12% more damage.
4-piece — Essence Break applies and benefits from Cycle of Hatred, its initial hit is increased by 35%, and its duration is increased by two seconds.

Build-specific preparation

Consumables

Flask of the Shattered Sun — Common Critical Strike choice; Flask of the Magisters is a simulation-dependent Mastery alternative.
Potion of Recklessness — Configure for Critical Strike and align with major burst when practical.
Concentrated Silvermoon Health Potion — It does not replace a Healthstone because they do not share the same cooldown.
Silvermoon Parade — Use another current primary-stat feast when appropriate.
Royal Roast — Current fallback when no feast is available.
Void-Touched Augment Rune — Optional for progression; expensive and lost on death.
Void-Touched Drums — Use only when the party lacks a full Bloodlust effect.
Void-Shrouded Tincture — Invisibility and skip tool that shares the offensive-potion cooldown.
Jan'alai's Precision on both weapons — This supersedes the earlier mixed-enchant recommendation.
Socket-count-dependent Eversong Diamond plan — Use Indecipherable below five total sockets; switch to Powerful only at five or more with the required colors.

Defensives and utility

Altar of Fangs — Burn It Out can clear Regurgitate; Vengeful Retreat can clear Paralyzing Shots, Regurgitate, and Toxic Atrophy; Chaos Nova can reset Ravenous Claws stacks. Preserve Retreat for Paralyzing Shots and delay Eye Beam when its Leech is needed during Blood Sacrifice.
The Blinding Vale — Vengeful Retreat clears Spore Spines, while Chaos Nova, Imprison, or Sigil of Misery can stop Thornclaw Leap.
Den of Nalorakk — Consume Magic can remove Healing Breeze, Soul Cleanse removes Starvation Effigy, and Retreat clears Frigid Roar; interrupt Frigid Roar and control Earthwhisper Tender and Healing Breeze.
Murder Row — Consume Magic removes Fel Crazed, Soul Cleanse removes Curse of Doom, and Spectral Sight reveals Street Sneak. Xathuux takes 30% extra damage during Demonic Rage, so a roughly 15–20 second Metamorphosis hold can be justified.
Voidscar Arena — Retreat clears Gravitic Orbs slow stacks and Violent Sand; do not use rotational Retreat while targeted by Nether Dash.
Temple of Sethraliss — Swap immediately when Storm Blessed changes the damageable target. Chaos Nova or Sigil of Misery can break A Knot of Snakes, and a pre-placed Sigil can free the Demon Hunter.
King's Rest — Consume Magic removes Bound by Shadow, Captain's Bulwark, and Unholy Mending; Burn It Out clears Wretched Discharge; Retreat clears Serpent Strike, Frost Shock, and Shadowfrost Bolt. Purge Bound by Shadow on every Shadow of Zul cast.
Ruby Life Pools — Consume Magic removes Blaze of Glory and Stormcloud Barrier, while Retreat clears Cold Claws. Purge Blaze of Glory so the target can be finished.
Current affix tools — Use Disrupt, Consume Magic, Chaos Nova, and Sigil of Misery for Ascendant; burst Voidbound; collect Pulsar orbs safely; use Soul Cleanse or Burn It Out plus Immolation Aura, or Vengeful Retreat, for Devour.

Defensives and utility

Reaver's Glaive sequencing — Never overwrite unused empowerments with a second Glaive; at two or more targets, spend the empowered Chaos Strike or Annihilation before Blade Dance or Death Sweep.
Pull-to-pull carryover — If a Reaver's Glaive carries from the prior pull, spend it before The Hunt.
Dungeon swaps — Choose Soul Cleanse or Burn It Out for the actual debuff plan and preserve Disrupt, Consume Magic, Chaos Nova, Sigil of Misery, and Vengeful Retreat for required mechanics.

Silvermoon Parade — Use Royal Roast as the current personal-food fallback.
Jan'alai's Precision on both weapons — Current August 24 revision.

Defensives and utility

Nymrissa Wavecaller — Abyssal Rain is heavy group damage; plan Darkness and Blur.
Nek'zali the Soulcoiler — Exergy movement can make Possession Barrage dangerous, and Soulcoil Ignition is a group-damage point for Darkness and Blur.
Entombed Sentinels — Swap immediately to Venom Coagulation and bank Reaver's Glaive for the two-target burst window. During Vitriolic Stasis, continue generating souls but save the Glaive for the damage phase.
The Lost Explorers — Double-jump Blast Wave, avoid Throw Junk and Splinters, consider Blur at three or more Splinter stacks, and stand away from ranged players on First Mate Nama because melee bait Shell Spin.
Vashnik the Malignant — Use Blur as Burning Venom dies to cover Caustic Surge.
Sszorak — Dig In creates a 30% damage-taken window; bank Reaver's Glaive for it.
The Twin Fangs — Prepare an immediate add swap for Venomous Emergence and consider saving Reaver's Glaive.
The Coiled Altar — Use Havoc mobility to help fix Coalesced Venom, and do not waste Reaver's Mark during Dreadmarch on allies whose shield will break quickly.

Defensives and utility

When Fel-Scarred fits — Prefer this preset when burst cleave, add damage, or easier progression execution matters more than the controlled Aldrachi single-target profile.
Chaotic Transformation planning — Spend Eye Beam and Death Sweep resets plus Fel-Scarred Demonsurge empowerments before Metamorphosis.
Darkness assignments — Treat Darkness as planned group utility for predictable damage events rather than a personal-only reactive button.

Abyssal Doomhound's Pursuit — Current Season 2 class set
2-piece — The current PvP specialist guide says tier effects operate at 50% effectiveness in PvP and still recommends obtaining the two-piece; recheck after any PvP set hotfix.
4-piece — The same dated specialist guidance recommends the four-piece at 50% PvP effectiveness; the ideal conversion slots are setup-dependent.

Consumables

No PvE consumable plan — PvE flasks, potions, food, and world-PvP consumables are not transplanted into rated arena or rated battleground instructions.
Acuity of the Ren'dorei — Dated Skill Capped setup.
Enduring Heliotrope — Dated Skill Capped setup.
Flawless Versatile Amethyst — Dated Skill Capped setup.

Defensives and utility

Glimpse — Core defensive and crowd-control avoidance tool tied to Vengeful Retreat; after your region reaches August 25 maintenance, its official active PvP damage reduction is 20%.
Blood Moon — Core offensive utility that extends Consume Magic to nearby enemies, grants an additional lesser Soul Fragment, and supports Aldrachi generation.
Detainment — Common third PvP talent that changes Imprison into unbreakable immunity-style crowd control for its duration.
Reverse Magic — Swap in against teams with important removable magic crowd control on allies.
Blur — Main personal defensive with two charges when Demonic Resilience is selected; after your region reaches August 25 maintenance, its official PvP damage reduction is 15%. The August 27 hotfix restored Blur's previous intended values outside PvP and did not revert that PvP-specific value; Blizzard did not publish a replacement PvE percentage.
Desperate Instincts — After your region reaches August 25 maintenance, the official PvP damage reduction is 5% below 35% health.
Darkness — Team defensive; aim to cover the target and a teammate instead of treating it as a personal-only button.
Control chain — Use Imprison, Sigil of Misery, and Chaos Nova to establish or extend crowd control or peel an opponent's offensive cooldowns, and use Spectral Sight before an opener against stealth teams.

Consumables

No PvE consumable plan — PvE flasks, potions, food, and world-PvP consumables are not transplanted into rated arena instructions.

Defensives and utility

Burst condition — Use the major Fel-Scarred burst after the enemy healer is controlled or important defensive cooldowns have been forced; an opener never overrides positioning or survival.
Core PvP talents — Glimpse and Blood Moon are core, Detainment is the common third, and Reverse Magic is a matchup swap.
Sustained-damage tradeoff — This organized burst plan has lower sustained pressure than the Aldrachi baseline, so do not project it into Solo Shuffle or Blitz without a separate review.

Talent import codes expire
Talent strings and the visual tree remain unavailable until each named build imports into the current client and every selected node and rank matches the reviewed setup. Use the named Fel-Scarred or Aldrachi plan to choose talents in game for now; a future update will add import codes only after the client build and tree hash are verified.

Havoc Demon Hunter FAQ

Which hero tree should Havoc use in Mythic+?

Fel-Scarred is the safest general recommendation because current specialist guidance favors its frequent burst AoE and easier execution, and it dominated the first high-key adoption snapshot. Aldrachi Reaver remains a valid specialist choice when a coordinated group values priority-target funnel. The correct build also needs dungeon-specific utility swaps, so no import should be pasted blindly across the entire pool.

Which hero tree should Havoc use in raid?

Use two presets. Aldrachi Reaver is the current simulation-oriented choice for controlled single target and funnel. Fel-Scarred is a strong live-progression and burst-cleave choice and dominated early Heroic adoption. Encounter targets, add timing, execution, and gear determine which answer matters; early log popularity does not prove that one tree has higher theoretical throughput.

What is the Havoc PvE stat priority?

The current general order is Agility, Critical Strike, Mastery, Haste, then Versatility. Item level and weapon DPS remain important, and Critical Strike and Mastery can trade value for an individual character. Use the order for quick choices, then simulate trinkets, cantrip items, sockets, embellishments, and close upgrades instead of chasing a fixed percentage cap.

Is Essence Break mandatory in Season 2?

Essence Break appears in every reviewed Season 2 PvE build because the two-piece directly buffs it and the four-piece changes its Cycle of Hatred interaction, increases its initial hit, and extends its duration. That PvE conclusion must not be projected into rated PvP; use a current PvP-reviewed loadout there and remember that tier effects can be separately tuned.

Should I copy a talent import string from this guide?

Only when the guide displays a current client build, validation date, and a successful export-and-import check. Import strings can become invalid or silently represent a different tree after talent changes. This version withholds every code and spatial tree, so build from the named Fel-Scarred or Aldrachi recommendation in the game until the verification details are present.

What should Havoc craft first for PvE?

The current specialist quick start is a Spellbreaker's Warglaive with Hunter's Ritual Stone, followed by Silvermoon Agent's Deflectors with Arcanoweave Lining. Drops can change that plan, and the crafted weapon normally moves to the off hand after Aman'muso is obtained. Review raid drops and the Great Vault before committing later crafts or blocking a chase slot.

What changes for Havoc in rated PvP?

PvP uses a different stat order and often a different hero tree. Start with PvP item level, then Versatility, Mastery, Haste, and Critical Strike. Aldrachi is the defensible Solo Shuffle pressure baseline, while Fel-Scarred is a coordinated burst option. After each region reaches the August 25 maintenance, Glimpse, Blur, and Desperate Instincts have lower PvP defensive values, so older guides can overstate durability. Blizzard's August 27 fix restored Blur's previous intended values outside PvP only; its official PvP value remains 15%.

What is Havoc’s most important group utility?

There is no single button. Chaos Brand supports magic damage, Darkness can cover the group, Consume Magic removes dangerous buffs, Disrupt stops casts, and Havoc's control kit handles trash, affix events, and PvP setups. The best contribution is using the correct tool on the planned mechanic without sacrificing positioning or survival for a small rotational gain.
