The October 2023 Release Candidate Milestone
Dragonflight Patch 10.2 PTR build 51790 reached the release candidate stage in October 2023, ahead of Guardians of the Dream. Archimtiros reported the milestone on October 17, 2023, while noting that further changes and hotfixes could still happen.
The game-client capture used for this article identifies Version 10.2.0 (51790) and carries an October 16, 2023 build stamp. Open the original client screenshot to inspect the version text. Its Release x64 label is a client-build label, rather than a statement that the patch was already live.
What the Milestone Meant for Players
A release candidate was a late testing milestone on the way to launch. The contemporary report expected fewer entirely new builds, but explicitly left room for hotfixes. It did not establish that class tuning was finished or that every datamined value would ship unchanged.
For a historical class comparison, keep the build number and date attached to the values. PTR data describes a test version; the published update notes and subsequent hotfixes describe later changes. The milestone alone cannot establish a spec’s launch damage, healing or ranking.
The Patch and Raid Had Separate Launch Dates
Blizzard’s Guardians of the Dream update notes distinguish the content update from the season and raid opening:
- October 17, 2023: build 51790 was reported as a release candidate on the PTR.
- Week of November 7, 2023: the Guardians of the Dream content update introduced the Emerald Dream outdoor zone and its campaign and activities.
- Week of November 14, 2023: Dragonflight Season 3 began, with Amirdrassil opening on Normal, Heroic and Mythic, plus its first Raid Finder wing.
The patch’s PvP addition included the Battleground Blitz brawl. Its actual content is documented in those official notes alongside the Emerald Dream and Amirdrassil; build 51790’s status was one step in that 2023 release cycle.
