Spec-aura values are internal database multipliers that scale all of a specialization's damage and healing spells up or down from a baseline. When one of these values shifts, every ability the spec uses is affected simultaneously; it is a broad-brush tuning lever rather than a single-talent change.
The BM spec aura was modified to 710% for both the "Modifies Damage Done" and "Modifies Healing Done" effects, covering 84 spells. Compared to the value it held before 10.2.6 launched, this represented an effective buff — BM's global output increased across Barbed Shot, Kill Command, Multi-Shot pet cleave, and all related procs.
Push arena rating as Hunter during the brief window when this change was live would have seen higher damage numbers, though most rated matches played out before the revert landed.
The real-toolkit context for BM in 10.2.6: Aspect of the Beast is a passive talent that increases the damage of your pet's Bite, Claw, and Smack by 30% and improves the effectiveness of its passive effects (Predator's Thirst, Endurance Training, Pathfinding) by 50% — it is not a cooldown and does not grant a timed damage window. Killer Cobra is the talent that resets Kill Command's cooldown when Cobra Shot is cast while Bestial Wrath is active. Neither was specifically altered by the 10.2.6 aura change; the aura shift affected all 84 spec spells simultaneously.
The Survival spec aura was modified to 3,632% for both damage and healing modifiers, also covering 84 spells. The delta from the pre-10.2.6 value put Survival at a disadvantage; effective output fell relative to what it had been before the patch, though the exact percentage loss was not publicly confirmed.
For reference: Aspect of the Eagle, Survival's signature cooldown, extends the range of Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bite to 40 yards for 15 seconds. It is not a damage amplifier. The spec aura change, not Aspect of the Eagle, was what drove the performance shift in 10.2.6.
Approximately three days after launch, Blizzard pushed a hotfix reverting both spec-aura values to their pre-10.2.6 state. The official patch notes entry read only that BM and Survival Hunter spec changes had been reverted; no explanation was given for why the changes shipped or why they were pulled.
The prevailing read among the community was that these were accidental — an internal tuning pass applied to live servers through the 10.2.6 build process. Plunderstorm was the focus of the patch and had its own separate talent ruleset, so the Hunter aura changes fit none of the announced balance goals.

BM Hunter was viable in 10.2.6 for both rated PvP and Mythic+ before the hotfix. The brief spec-aura buff existed for only a few days, so its impact on progression content was limited. After the revert, BM returned to its pre-patch tuning standing.
Survival returned to its pre-10.2.6 tuning. Survival had spent most of Dragonflight as a less-played melee option with strong niche value in double-DPS arena compositions. The 10.2.6 aura change and subsequent revert did not permanently alter that position.
