The Day of the Dead is a two-day annual WoW event held each November at every capital city graveyard. Two NPCs run the whole celebration: Catrina, who gives the main quest, and Chapman, who sells the seasonal costumes, cosmetics, and collectibles. Most players can finish every activity in a single short session without crossing zone lines.
Accept The Grateful Dead from Catrina. She hands over the Recipe: Bread of the Dead, which combines Simple Flour and Ice Cold Milk — both sold by the cooking supply vendor standing nearby. Deliver the finished loaf back to Catrina to complete the quest. The reward is the Macabre Marionette battle pet, claimable once per account each year the event runs.
Chapman sells Contender's Costume toys including the "Purple Phantom" and "Blooming Rose" variants. While wearing one you can defeat another player in a contender costume to complete a seasonal quest and earn the Vientos! achievement. Any costume works for the PvP interaction; pick whichever you prefer.
Chapman also carries the Orange Marigold, which lets you see the spirits of the dead for the event's duration, and the Bouquet of Orange Marigolds cosmetic off-hand. Seasonal food items he sells are functional but optional for the completion checklist.
Two short quests award Trader's Tender during the Day of the Dead. The first is The Grateful Dead — Catrina's bread quest. The second rewards you for purchasing a Day of the Dead costume from Chapman and defeating a costumed opponent, which simultaneously finishes Vientos!. Both quests reset each November when the event returns.
During the Dragonflight 2023 run of the Day of the Dead, Blizzard added the Cliffside Wylderdrake: Day of the Dead Armor to Chapman's inventory. This saddle skin converts any Cliffside Wylderdrake into a Dia de los Muertos-themed ride. Players who bought it in Dragonflight still have it, and the cosmetic has returned in subsequent annual iterations of the holiday.
