How WoW's 20th Anniversary XP Stacking Worked
The WoW 20th Anniversary event (October 22, 2024 – January 6, 2025) ran during Patch 11.0.5 and offered players a rare window to combine six stacking sources into an 85% experience bonus for leveling alternate characters. Below is a full breakdown of each component and how to stack them for maximum gain.
Anniversary Passive and Daily Quest Buff
All characters below the level cap automatically received a passive +10% XP bonus for the event's entire duration. A daily quest, Celebrate Good Fun!, was available from Yllana near the Caverns of Time entrance in Tanaris. Completing it rewarded the Blessings of the Bronze Dragonflight buff — an additional +10% XP and reputation lasting 12 hours and persisting through death. The quest reset daily, so players refreshed the buff every day of the event.
Warband Mentored Leveling: Up to +25%
Each character at the level cap contributed a +5% XP bonus to lower-level characters in the same Warband, stacking up to five mentors for a maximum of +25%:
| Warband Mentors at Max Level | Bonus XP |
|---|---|
| 1 mentor | +5% |
| 2 mentors | +10% |
| 3 mentors | +15% |
| 4 mentors | +20% |
| 5 mentors | +25% |
Players with five characters at the level cap captured the maximum +25% from this source — the single largest individual contribution to the 85% stack.
War Mode: +10%
Enabling War Mode (open-world PvP flagging) granted the Enlisted buff, adding another +10% XP. The anniversary event hub outside the Caverns of Time was designated a sanctuary zone, so even players with War Mode active could collect their daily buff without PvP risk.
Seasonal Events: Hallow's End and Darkmoon Faire
Two in-game holidays overlapped with the anniversary window and each added +10% XP:
- Hallow's End (Oct 18 – Nov 1): The Unburdened or Grim Visage buffs at Stormwind or Undercity each provided +10% XP for two hours.
- Darkmoon Faire: The WHEE! buff granted +10% XP for one hour, extendable by purchasing Darkmoon Top Hats with Darkmoon Prize Tickets from the Faire vendors.
The Hallow's End window and Darkmoon Faire appearances in late October created brief windows where both seasonal bonuses stacked alongside the anniversary buff for maximum effect.
Draught of Ten Lands: +10% for Characters Below Level 50
Characters at level 49 or below could add the Draught of Ten Lands for a further +10% XP. The potion cost 5 Service Medals each, sold by Provisioner Stoutforge in Boralus (Alliance) or Provisioner Mukra in Dazar'alor (Horde). It was account-transferable, making it straightforward to pass between alts at any stage of leveling.
Full Stack: How 85% Was Reached
With all six sources active, the XP bonus reached 85%: 10% (anniversary passive) + 10% (Celebrate Good Fun! quest buff) + 25% (five Warband Mentors) + 10% (War Mode) + 10% (Hallow's End or Darkmoon Faire) + 10% (Draught of Ten Lands for sub-50 characters) = 85%. Characters above level 49 could not use the Draught, capping their stack at 75% — still an exceptional bonus. Reaching the full 85% required War Mode active, five mentors, an active seasonal event, and a character in the 1–49 range.
