Overview of the July 24, 2024 Hotfixes
Blizzard deployed hotfixes on July 24, 2024, during the War Within pre-patch window, targeting gameplay across Dragonflight, Cataclysm Classic, Season of Discovery, and WoW Classic. Some changes took effect immediately; others required a server restart. A small number of issues could only be resolved through a full client patch.
Hunter Class Changes
Beast Mastery Adjustments
Beast Mastery saw targeted reductions to its burst window:
- Bestial Wrath: Summoning a Dire Beast through Bestial Wrath no longer provided a stack of Huntmaster's Call. The Dire Beast summon duration was also reduced from 15 seconds to 10 seconds.
- Huntmaster's Call (Fenryr): Attack damage was reduced by 20% and haste reduced from 10% to 8%. Players looking to push arena rating as Hunter needed to adapt their burst rotation after this nerf.
- Huntmaster's Call (Hati): Damage buff lowered from 8% to 6%.
Survival Adjustments
- Grenade Juggler: Explosive Shot now applied only to the primary target, not secondary targets.
- Wildfire Infusion: Override effects from the previous Wildfire Infusion on a Wildfire Bomb were removed.
Beyond Hunter, the July 24 patch also touched other classes and character systems.
Other Class and Character Fixes
Destruction Warlock
The Decimation talent was updated to activate only on critical strikes from the Warlock's direct damage abilities.
Character Fixes
- Evokers gained the ability to queue for legacy content immediately upon creation.
- Characters who had not unlocked Skyriding or Dragonriding were fixed. Affected characters now automatically use Static Flight mode on login.
- Using a Character Boost, Race Change, or Faction Change no longer affects a character's eligibility for Heritage Armor quests.
Quest Fixes
- Eadwaerd's misplaced notes were restored, unblocking players on the "Handling It" quest.
Taken together, these fixes addressed both class balance and quality-of-life issues ahead of the expansion launch.
