Archmage Sol: The Everbloom's Interrupt Boss Rework
When Patch 10.2 hit the PTR in October 2023, Blizzard redesigned the interrupt encounter around Archmage Sol in The Everbloom, ahead of the dungeon's return to the Dragonflight Season 3 Mythic+ pool. The rework gave Sol three cycling elemental phases, Fire, Frost, and Arcane, rotating every roughly 20 seconds. What had been a straightforward interrupt fight became a coordination-heavy encounter requiring the group to track both casts and spatial hazards at the same time.
Fire Affinity
Sol opened each rotation in the fire phase, casting Cinderbolt Storm: a volley of burning projectiles that left persistent fire patches across the arena floor. Groups called interrupt cooldowns while managing positioning around the expanding patches. A missed cast meant rapidly spreading fire that pushed the group into a corner.
Frost Affinity
The frost phase brought Glacial Fusion, two converging rings of ice that closed on the group from opposite sides. The rings dealt heavy damage on contact, and with fire patches still active from the prior phase, safe zones shrank quickly. Interrupt priority shifted to the ring cast while the group moved into the gap between them.
Arcane Affinity
Sol's arcane phase introduced Spatial Compression, a targeted projectile that pulled the hit player toward the impact point. With fire patches already on the floor, the displacement effect was the hardest element of the rotation to manage cleanly: a pulled player could land directly on an active patch.
Phase Transitions and Spore Images
Each affinity shift spawned a Spore Image that cast an ability from the previous school. On Mythic keys, the group entered each new phase with the prior element's Spore Image still active, which meant managing a Frost hazard while reacting to the incoming Arcane displacement. The Spore Image overlaps drove most of the wipes in early PTR testing and defined how groups structured interrupt rotations throughout Season 3.
Yalnu and the Brushfire Mechanic
The Archmage Sol rework was not the only change to The Everbloom in that PTR cycle. Yalnu, the dungeon's final boss, received a paired update introducing the Brushfire debuff: a 300% bonus damage modifier applied to Yalnu. An add spawned roughly every 55 seconds specifically to interrupt the debuff cast. Miss the interrupt and the damage window was gone. The Genesis ability also changed, requiring players to step on Lashers before they could uproot, adding a target-priority layer to the pull.
The Everbloom in Dragonflight Season 3
Both changes went live with Patch 10.2 on November 7, 2023, when The Everbloom joined the Season 3 Mythic+ pool alongside Dawn of the Infinite, Throne of the Tides, and five other dungeons. Archmage Sol's rotating-affinity design became one of the defining interrupt check mechanics of that season, with her Mythic tuning discussed widely in keystoning circles throughout Patch 10.2.
