Holiday decorations transform the capital cities of Azeroth each December, and the Feast of Winter Veil 2023 brought fresh additions alongside the familiar annual fixtures. Here is what was new and what has always been there.
The Feast of Winter Veil runs annually for roughly three weeks. In retail WoW, the event starts December 16; in WoW Classic, it starts December 15. Both versions end on January 2. The core structure is the same across years:

Holiday decorations in 2023 also received visible updates: players could spot an orc nutcracker and ornaments themed around the Lost Vikings — a nod to Blizzard's classic 1993 arcade game — scattered among the traditional holly decorations.

✏️ Player tip: The Stolen Present from the Abominable Greench quest has a daily lockout — reset at the standard daily reset time. Completing the Greench quest every day throughout the event maximises your chances of obtaining the Highland Drake: Winter Veil Armor if it has not already dropped, since the cosmetic is not a guaranteed drop from the present.
During Dragonflight, several dungeon and raid bosses participated in the holiday by wearing festive hats. Defeating them during the event gave a chance at holiday loot. The 2023 Dragonflight boss hat list included:

The Feast of Winter Veil runs annually from December 16 (retail WoW) or December 15 (WoW Classic) through January 2. The dates are consistent across years. December 25 is when Greatfather Winter's gift boxes become available under the trees in Ironforge and Orgrimmar.
Complete the Abominable Greench daily quest, "You're a Mean One...", available to players level 30 and above. The quest sends you to Hillsbrad Foothills to defeat the Greench and rescue Metzen the Reindeer. Completing it once per day rewards a Stolen Present containing that year's new holiday items.
The Highland Drake: Winter Veil Armor is a dragonriding mount customization added in Winter Veil 2023. It decorates the Highland Drake with a red nose, antlers, and a festive sleigh-style saddle. It drops from the Stolen Present (Abominable Greench daily reward), not from the December 25 gift box.
Greatfather Winter's gift boxes (placed under the trees in Ironforge and Orgrimmar) contain that year's new toys and cosmetics. Classic players in Season of Discovery could participate in the Feast of Winter Veil alongside the main WoW Classic Winter Veil event, including the sleigh ride in Orgrimmar and Ironforge and the Greatfeather Pepe NPC who offered A Tiny Winter Hat cosmetic.
