The Interview Was a Preview, Not a Launch Rulebook
Historical Q&A: November 4, 2023, with 2024 release context. Wowhead’s Jaydaa reported the group interview with Maria Hamilton and Kristy Moret at BlizzCon. Its access and progression answers describe design intent before The War Within launched.
The distinctions below use the original interview report alongside Blizzard’s later documentation. They do not turn an early answer into a guarantee the developers did not make.
Access and Progression Questions
Did early access guarantee no economic advantage?
No such guarantee was established. The interview described a story-focused early period without seasonal content. That is different from specifying controls that prevented every Auction House advantage.
The actual 2024 release schedule separated Early Access on August 22 from global launch on August 26, North American Season 1 opening on September 10 and Mythic+ opening on September 17. Those dates are evidence of staggered content access, not measured evidence about the economy.
Were only the four camp characters in the Warband?
No. The camp presentation did not define the full roster. Blizzard’s Warbands explanation included characters across the same Battle.net account and region, including both factions. Four favorites on the selection screen were a display choice.
Shared progression still needed its own rules. Warband membership did not make every reputation, item or currency universally shared. That distinction prevents a screenshot of the camp from becoming an inaccurate limit—or an unlimited-sharing promise.
Did cross-realm guilds mean cross-region guilds?
No. The interview identified greater technical obstacles between regions. Blizzard’s 2024 returning-player overview subsequently confirmed cross-realm guild invitations. It did not announce one guild pool across all account regions.
When comparing old posts, distinguish realm names from regions such as Europe and the Americas. Removing a realm restriction does not by itself remove the regional boundary.
Did repeatable Delves mean every reward was unlimited?
No. The interview separated repeatable runs from limits on improved rewards. Blizzard’s Delves launch preview also separated the initial tiers from seasonal progression: tiers 1–3 were available at launch, while higher tiers and Great Vault progress arrived with Season 1.
Being able to enter again is not the same as earning every reward again. Read the particular reward’s rules and the season date before planning repeated runs.
Flight and World Design Were Separate Questions
The interview’s unanswered flight question concerned Druid flight form, not whether Dynamic Flight existed as an expansion feature. For the creative and zone-design discussion, see the separate Hamilton–Moret world-design recap.
