Nerub-ar Palace PTR: Private Aura & Boss Tuning Changes

Discover the latest tuning changes in the Weekly Nerub-ar Palace update, featuring new abilities and adjustments to Private Auras. Dive into the details of the revamped encounters and how they affect the strategies for conquering Nerub-ar Palace.

Nerub-ar Palace Weekly Tuning Changes

During the pre-release testing cycle for The War Within, Blizzard pushed a wave of tuning adjustments to Nerub-ar Palace bosses and revised which debuffs were flagged as Private Auras — the mechanic that hides assignment information from other raid members.

Private Aura Changes

Removed from Private Aura List

The Experimental Dosage debuff was removed from the Private Aura list. Previously it functioned as a personal assignment mechanic, but removing it from Private Aura status meant the full raid could see and assist with the effect rather than each player resolving it in isolation.

Newly Added Private Auras

Phase Blades and Queensbane were converted to Private Auras. Phase Blades communicated a specific number allocation to each targeted player, making split-second positioning clearer without broadcasting assignment details to the whole raid.

Boss-by-Boss Ability Adjustments

Ulgrax the Devourer

  • Battered and Bruised: Increased Carnivorous Contest damage by 500%.
  • Brutal Crush: Raised the Tenderized stack cap to 20 (up from 18).
  • Contemptful Rage: Damage bonus adjusted to 250% (up from 200%).

These adjustments pushed Ulgrax's outgoing damage pressure higher, rewarding guilds that controlled stack counts tightly.

Rasha'nan

  • Web Reave: Now required hitting at least 4 players to trigger, changing spread positioning requirements.
  • Broodtwister Ovi'nax — Experimental Dosage: Damage and healing absorb both magnified by 33%.

Skeinspinner Takazj

Takazj received revised damage numbers on two core abilities:

Ability Damage / Effect Duration
Entropic Barrage 11,512,620 Shadow damage + 11 sec absorb shield Shield breaks, then 1 hit/sec for 10 sec
Web Vortex 461,164 Shadow damage per second Web cones explode after 6 sec for additional damage

Both abilities rewarded stacking mitigation cooldowns on the initial hit rather than saving them for the sustained phase.

Nerub-ar Palace in Context

The Nerub-ar Palace tuning pass was part of Blizzard's standard PTR feedback loop before the raid opened in The War Within Season 1. Guilds testing on PTR used these numbers to refine cooldown timing and positioning plans.
