Understanding Legendary Aspects in Diablo IV

Welcome to our blog post about Legendary Aspects in Diablo IV, a new feature of the game that is revolutionizing the way you build your character's strength. Legendary Aspects are distinctive powers that can be imprinted onto your equipment, heightening their potency and usefulness in your battles against the hordes of hell.

  • How Legendary Aspects work

These potent powers can be procured in a duo of ways. Firstly, every dungeon completion, specifically associated with a Legendary Aspect, will add this power to your Codex of Power. Secondly, looting a Legendary item lets you extract the Legendary Aspect at the cost of the item's destruction, but preserving the Aspect for your future needs. The Aspects that tumble into your Codex of Power often appear on items that you loot, typically with a higher effectiveness.

To manipulate these Legendary Aspects, such as extracting and imprinting them, you will need the assistance of an Occultist.

Codex of Power and its Legendary Aspects

Your Codex of Power is a compilation of Legendary Aspects, gathered by the first-time completion of each dungeon. This collection process is passive, consistent, and targeted. All you need to do is navigate and complete the dungeon. Subsequently, the Aspect automatically accrues in your Codex without occupying any bag space. Every Aspect has a fixed association with a dungeon, so if you fancy a particular one, you just need to complete the corresponding dungeon.

  • The Permanence of Codex Aspects

One of the advantages of the Codex is that its Aspects are perpetual. Once an Aspect enters your collection, you can utilize it endlessly. In addition, your Codex of Power is account-wide, enabling all your characters to access any collected Aspects.

  • Codex Aspects: Limitations

Despite the benefits, the Codex of Power does have a couple of significant disadvantages. To start with, the Codex does not encompass all Legendary Aspects, limiting the number of Aspects available to the number of dungeons you can complete for the first time. This limitation could potentially prevent easy access to a specific Aspect.

The second downside pertains to the variability of affixes in a Legendary Aspect. The Codex version of an Aspect will always offer the lowest possible value of a variable affix. To acquire a higher value, you would need to discover an item already containing that Aspect and then use an Occultist to extract it.

Extracted Legendary Aspects: A Closer Look

If you discover a Legendary item containing an Aspect that you wish to retain for future usage or to imprint on another item, the Occultist can help you extract the Aspect. This extraction process will destroy the original item, but the Aspect will be saved as a Legendary Aspect in your inventory, ready for use when needed.

Your inventory maintains a unique tab for these Legendary Aspects. Hence, they don't fill up your regular bag space. However, the number of Aspects you can store is still bound by the available slots.

  • Pros and Cons of Extracted Aspects

Obtaining these extracted Aspects is unpredictable, making the acquisition of a specific one a matter of chance and persistent effort. Moreover, unlike the Codex of Power Aspects, the extracted Legendary Aspects can only be used once, rendering them a finite resource.

Legendary Aspect Categories in Diablo IV

Every Legendary Aspect, irrespective of whether it's extracted or stored in your Codex, falls into one of five distinct categories. These categories divide the Aspects based on their purpose and also establish which gear pieces they can be imprinted on.

  • Aspect Categories and Allowed Items

Aspect Type Allowed Items
Offensive Amulet, Weapon, Gloves, Ring
Defensive Shield, Helm, Chest, Pants, Amulet
Utility Shield, Helm, Chest, Amulet, Gloves, Boots
Resource Ring
Mobility Amulet, Boots

Take note, the choice of item slot for a Legendary Aspect can sometimes boost the imprinted Legendary Power on the item.

While many Legendary Aspects are crafted for a specific Class in Diablo IV, there also exist several Generic Legendary Aspects that any Class can employ.
