Update on Hardcore Renown Carryover in Diablo 4 Season 2: What You Need to Know

October 09, 2023 3 minutes

Blizzard has recently provided some clarification regarding the upcoming changes to Renown in Season 2 of Diablo 4. In a Developer Livestream, there was some confusion surrounding whether these changes would apply to Hardcore characters. However, the Global Community Development Director, Adam Fletcher, took to Twitter to address these concerns and confirm that Hardcore characters will indeed benefit from the announced Renown changes.

For those unfamiliar, Renown is a system in Diablo 4 that allows players to progress and unlock various rewards as they play through seasons. Previously, players believed that Hardcore characters would not be able to take advantage of the decreased time required to regain Renown each season, as well as the persistence of Renown rewards across seasons. However, with the new clarification, Hardcore characters will enjoy these benefits as well.

Vampiric Powers and Hardcore Characters

In Season 2 of Diablo 4, Hardcore characters will experience faster Renown progression and will have their Renown rewards carry over to subsequent seasons. This means that as a Hardcore player, you will be able to earn Renown at an accelerated rate, allowing you to unlock rewards more quickly. Additionally, any Renown rewards you earn will be accessible to your Hardcore character in future seasons, providing a sense of progression and investment.

Progression Transfer Limitations

However, it is important to note that just like in the previous season, if your Hardcore character meets an unfortunate demise before the season ends, their progress towards activating Altars of Lilith and uncovering the map will not carry over to the next season. This limitation is in place to maintain the challenging and high-risk nature of Hardcore gameplay. Therefore, it is crucial to exercise caution while exploring Sanctuary with your Hardcore character, as one false move can result in irreversible consequences.

Diablo 4 Season 2 Content Progression Revamp

With Season 2 of Diablo 4, Blizzard is revamping the content progression system to provide a more engaging and rewarding experience for players. One of the key aspects of this revamp is the changes to the Renown system, which now benefit Hardcore characters as well. But Renown is not the only element being tweaked in Season 2.

Blizzard has also introduced a new feature called Vampiric Powers. These powers allow players to harness the dark magic of Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred, granting them unique abilities and enhancing their gameplay. Each class in Diablo 4 will have its own set of Vampiric Powers, providing them with new strategic options and playstyles. With the introduction of Vampiric Powers, Season 2 brings an additional layer of depth and customization to the game.

Other Changes in Season 2

Aside from the changes to Renown and the introduction of Vampiric Powers, Season 2 of Diablo 4 will also feature various other updates and improvements. Some of these include:

  1. Additional endgame activities for players to explore and conquer.
  2. New legendary items with powerful affixes.
  3. Balance adjustments to ensure a more fair and enjoyable gameplay experience.
  4. Quality of life improvements based on player feedback.

Conclusion

With the upcoming changes to Renown in Season 2 of Diablo 4, Hardcore characters will now be able to benefit from the improved progression and persistent rewards. This ensures that Hardcore players can fully engage with the new content and experience the excitement of unlocking powerful Vampiric Powers.

As you dive into Season 2, be mindful of the risks involved in Hardcore play, as death still carries significant consequences. But with caution and skill, you can explore Sanctuary and conquer its challenges with your Hardcore character, knowing that your progress and rewards will persist throughout the seasons in Diablo 4.
