Blizzard's Response to Rogue Rework and Feedback in Patch 10.2

September 12, 2023 3 minutes

Hey there, gamers! It's WowCarry here, and today we're diving into the recent update from Blizzard regarding the Rogue Rework in Patch 10.2. Over the weekend, Blizzard responded to player feedback and first impressions, addressing some of the concerns and questions raised by the community. Let's take a closer look at what they had to say.

Targeting the Serrated Bone Spike Controversy

One question that arose was whether targets hit with Serrated Bone Spike would instantly die when they hit 35% HP, particularly when running Sudden Demise, as the spell has an unlimited duration while in combat. Although a literal reading of the tooltip might suggest this, Blizzard clarified that the spell actually counts 30 seconds' worth of SBS dot damage. So, no, targets won't instantly die at 35% HP.

Indiscriminate Carnage Redesign

Blizzard also addressed the concerns surrounding Indiscriminate Carnage. This spell has been redesigned to make Garrote and Rupture apply to 2 additional nearby enemies when used from Stealth and for 3 seconds after breaking Stealth. However, players noted that this spell still required Stealth, which limited its effectiveness in certain situations. Blizzard acknowledged this issue and confirmed that they would remove the Stealth requirement for Indiscriminate Carnage.

  • Testing and Tuning

Blizzard acknowledged that while they intended for the effect of Indiscriminate Carnage to remain contained within a limited window, their updated version didn't quite hit the mark. As a result, they are currently exploring ways to improve the spell, making it more powerful and easier to manage. It's important to note that the current values may not be suitable for PvP, so Blizzard plans to introduce separate PvP tuning and adjustments in a future PTR build.

Talent Order and Accessibility

Players also raised concerns about the order in which certain talents were learned in the Subtlety tree. Specifically, some talents were accessible before obtaining the corresponding ability, such as getting Without a Trace and Cloaked in Shadows before unlocking Vanish. Blizzard admitted that this was an oversight and mentioned that they would be cleaning up such instances before the patch's release.

Furthermore, a long-time Rogue fan expressed concern over the changes to the Assassination spec from an accessibility standpoint. They discussed how other classes often have a simpler spec alongside their more complex ones, but Rogue lacks that option. Blizzard took note of this feedback and shared that while reducing button count was not their initial goal, they were considering small adjustments to address this concern and make the spec more accessible without compromising its effectiveness.

  • Addressing Bugs and Player Reports

Lastly, Blizzard addressed the issue with Killing Spree in PvP on the PTR. Currently, this ability is bugged and has a reduced time delay between strikes, resulting in up to 38% more damage than intended when used with 7 combo points. Blizzard reassured players that they are aware of this bug and have already fixed it internally. The fix will be implemented in a future PTR build update.

Final Thoughts

It's great to see Blizzard actively engaging with the community and responding to feedback regarding the Rogue Rework in Patch 10.2. They have addressed several concerns raised by players and are actively working on improvements and adjustments to ensure a balanced and enjoyable gameplay experience for Rogues. As always, we'll keep you updated on any further developments. Be sure to prepare for the Amirdrassil raid that's coming soon, we're here to help you out. Until then, happy gaming!
