November 05, 2023 6 minutes

Welcome to the World of Warcraft blog post by WowCarry! Today, we'll be diving deep into the exciting new features revealed at BlizzCon 2023 for the upcoming expansion, The War Within. Game Director Ion Hazzikostas took us on a journey through the world of Azeroth, showcasing Delves, Warbands, Hero Talents, the Earthen allied race, dynamic flight, and PvP updates. Let's get started!

The Adventure of Delves

In the next expansion, players will be able to embark on quick adventures called Delves. These adventures can be experienced solo or with a group of up to five players. Delves are seamlessly integrated into the outdoor realm and offer a new endgame pillar alongside dungeons, raids, and PvP.

Designed to provide variety, flexibility, and replayability, there will be 12 different Delves available at launch, set in various environments throughout Khaz Algar. Inspired by previous content like Torghast, Islands, and Scenarios, Delves aim to offer more player choice and variety.

  • Just the Facts:

  • 10-15 minute adventures
  • Unravel mysteries and find treasure in Khaz Algar
  • New Seasonal Rewards with a narrative tie-in and NPC companions
  • Unlock NPC companion, Brann Bronzebeard, for Season One
  • Customizable companion NPCs to complement your character
  • Access to treasure rooms with valuable rewards
  • New flying mount available as a Delve reward

Delves will be located in various zones, each with its own unique environment, setting, and inhabitants. From the Isle of Dorn to the Rak-Rethan Abyss, players will have plenty of locations to explore and conquer. The difficulty of Delves will vary, offering a range of potential rewards for players.

Delve Locations
Isle of Dorn The Dread Pit
Hallowfall Rak-Rethan Abyss
The Ringing Deeps Fungal Folly
Azj-Kahet The Sinkhole
Earthcrawl Mines Deepwalker Hold
Skittering Breach Mycomancer Cavern
The Waterworks
The Spiral Weave
Kriegval's Rest
Nightfall Sanctum

Players will also have the opportunity to earn rewards from the Great Vault by participating in outdoor world activities. The new "World" category in the Great Vault will allow players to unlock rewards based on the difficulty level completed, similar to heroic raiding or high-level dungeons. PvP players will no longer need to rely on the Guild Vault for rewards. Instead, they will receive additional Conquest to purchase desired items.

Additionally, Delves will offer a variety of cosmetic rewards, including unique helms and a new customizable flying mount. These rewards will be balanced against dungeon and raid loot.

Revolutionizing the Alt Experience with Warbands

In response to players' evolving playstyles, Warbands will introduce account-wide progression and convenience. With Warbands, players can share items between all characters on a single Battle.net account using the Warband Bank. Players will also encounter bonus loot items called Warbound Items that can be shared with alternate characters.

Warbands will also integrate with various aspects of the game, such as transmogrification collections and reputations. This means that unlocking a recipe or earning reputation on one character will be available for all characters in the Warband. Flight paths, companion NPC leveling, and achievements will also be accessible to all characters in a Warband.

When logging into the game, players will see a selection of their characters waiting on the login screen, allowing them to choose their next adventure with ease. Warbands aim to provide a more alt-friendly experience without granting additional power to alternate characters.

Embrace a Deeper Class Fantasy with Hero Talents

The War Within expansion will introduce Hero Talents, offering players 10 new talent points for each of the 10 levels earned while playing. These talents will focus on exploring deeper class fantasies, providing flexibility for different play styles, and offering progression and agency without introducing excessive complexities.

Each specialization will have access to the Class, Hero, and Specialization talent trees. With ten points to allocate, players can unlock all talents within a Hero tree. The choices lie in determining the order in which the talents are acquired.

For example, Balance and Restoration druids will have access to the Keeper of the Grove and Elune's Chosen talent trees. These trees offer additional choice nodes, allowing players to customize their playstyle depending on the content they are undertaking.

  • Hero Talent Trees:

Here are some examples of the 39 Hero talent specializations available:

  • Death Knight - Rider of the Apocalypse, San'layn, Deathbringer
  • Hunter - Sentinel, Pack Leader, Dark Ranger
  • Priest - Voidweaver, Oracle, Archon
  • Warrior - Colossus, Slayer, Mountain Thane
  • Demon Hunter - Aldrachi Reaver, Fel-Scarred
  • Mage - Sunfury, Frostfire, Spellslinger
  • Rogue - Deathstalker, Trickster, Fatebound
  • Druid - Keeper of the Grove, Elune's Chosen, Wildstalker, Druid of the Claw
  • Monk - Master of Harmony, Shado-pan, Conduit of the Celestials
  • Shaman - Stormbringer, Farseer, Totemic Evoker
  • Paladin - Lightsmith, Herald of the Sun, Templar
  • Warlock - Soul Harvester, Hellcaller, Diabolist

These are just a few examples, and the names of Hero Talent trees are subject to change.

New Races, Dynamic Flight, and More

In The War Within, players will have the opportunity to unlock the Earthen Allied Race after completing the campaign and the endgame questline. This new race can join either the Horde or the Alliance and includes playable classes such as Death Knight, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior. Leveling the Earthen Allied Race will also unlock the Earthen Heritage Armor.

Dynamic flight, allowing players to ride flying mounts in all flyable areas, will be available even before The War Within launches. Players can choose between dynamic flight or the original flying style introduced in The Burning Crusade expansion.

A new battleground called The Ringing Deeps will be introduced, offering a thrilling 10v10 capture-point experience set in this unique location. Players will fight for control of minecarts and a central node, adding exciting twists to the gameplay.

The interface will also receive updates, with improvements to the Spellbook layout and quest interface. The Spellbook will provide a larger, cleaner layout that takes advantage of modern display resolutions, offering a more streamlined experience. The quest interface will allow for better filtering, hiding or showing objectives in the quest log, and cleaner icons.

Lastly, cross-realm guilds will be introduced, allowing players to freely apply for a guild or recruit new members regardless of their realm. Mythic raiding will be available from the first day of The War Within launch, removing social barriers and enabling players to join with their friends wherever they may be.

Conclusion

The War Within expansion for World of Warcraft showcases a wide range of exciting features that aim to enhance the player experience. From thrilling Delves and alt-friendly Warbands to deeper class fantasies with Hero Talents, players will have plenty to look forward to in their journey through Azeroth. The new races, dynamic flight, battleground, and interface updates further add to the excitement and freshness of the game. Stay tuned for more updates as development continues!
