Determine the Destiny of a Betrayer - Fresh Night Elf Questline in 10.2.7

April 11, 2024 5 minutes

A new questline in Patch 10.2.7 of the popular MMORPG game sees players embarking on a journey to help a grieving night elf lay her family to rest. However, what starts as a noble mission takes an unexpected turn when it is revealed that the night elf's sister, whom she thought had perished, is actually a known enemy from their own past. Now, players must make a difficult decision that will shape the outcome of the questline and potentially impact the fate of the characters involved.

A Heart-Wrenching Request

The questline begins with Malfurion Stormrage, a powerful druid, in the tranquil village of Bel'ameth. He shares the story of a young night elf named Kelestra, who recently requested permission to bury her family in a sacred barrow den. Concerned about Kelestra's well-being and the possibility of her being left alone in the world, Malfurion asks players to visit her and ensure she's doing alright.

  • Tears of Teldrassil

Players meet Kelestra outside the Barrows of Reverie, where she is collecting barrowstones for the final resting place of her family. As they assist her, Kelestra shares the heartbreaking tale of how her sister, a dedicated druid, led their family to safety during the Horde's devastating attack on Teldrassil. Tragically, her sister was struck by a burning branch, losing control and causing the family to plummet to their deaths.

Surviving the fall but gravely injured, Kelestra was left to mourn the loss of her parents, brother, and possibly her sister, whom she never found. The night elf reflects on the fateful day when they had gathered to celebrate her sister's graduation as a Druid of the Talon, never anticipating the horrors that awaited them.

  • Finding Hope in Desperation

However, the story takes an unexpected turn when it is revealed that Kelestra's sister is none other than Koroleth, the notorious night elf who led the Primalists and played a key role in a previous encounter with players. Druid Rashan Stillbrook, who overhears the conversation, confronts Kelestra with anger, proclaiming that her sister was a traitor who deserved her fate.

Distraught and seeking answers, Kelestra turns to the players to confirm if the claims are true. At this point, players have a choice in how much they disclose about their involvement in Koroleth's demise, allowing them to shape the narrative and the outcome of the questline.

Uncovering the Truth

To shed light on Koroleth's motivations, players journey to the Twilight Watchtower, where the Wardens keep an eye on former Primalists who have reintegrated into night elf society. There, they speak to Koroleth's former allies, who explain that her deep hatred for the Horde drove her actions. The distinct markings on her bald head and scarred face were remnants of the Burning of Teldrassil, fueling her desire for vengeance.

However, the Primalists also believe that Koroleth was not aware of their true intention: targeting the new world tree. They assert that had Koroleth survived, her allegiance might have shifted, just as they did. This revelation brings some solace to Kelestra, who can empathize with her sister's hatred for the Horde but firmly believes she would never have attacked Amirdrassil, the night elves' sacred dwelling.

With newfound understanding, Kelestra seeks player assistance in recovering her sister's remains so that she can lay her to rest alongside their family.

The Weight of Decisions

Returning to the barrow den, players find Kelestra's path blocked by Rashan Stillbrook and Malfurion Stormrage. Rashan vehemently opposes the idea of Koroleth being buried in a sacred barrow den, citing her traitorous actions and the pain she caused. Malfurion acknowledges the complexity of the situation, as he had initially agreed without knowledge of Kelestra's sister's identity.

Kelestra implores players to help her advocate for her sister's burial, once again presenting them with a pivotal choice. The consequences of this decision are made clear, highlighting the potential impact it may have.

If players argue on Kelestra's behalf or allow Malfurion to make an independent decision, he ultimately permits the burial of Koroleth in the barrow den. Grateful for their support, Kelestra expresses her appreciation, while Rashan, consumed by the loss of his own brother at Koroleth's hands, leaves in disgust.

If players side with Rashan, Malfurion denies Kelestra's request, forbidding the burial of Koroleth in the sacred grounds. Heartbroken that her family will forever remain separated, Kelestra directs players to meet her at the place where they discovered Koroleth's remains.

Resolution and Reflection

Completing this emotional questline rewards players with the Satchel of Stormborn Seeds, a unique toy that summons a miniature stormcloud. While the quest reaches its conclusion, players can still visit Kelestra at her sister's grave.

  • In Support of Unity

If players supported Kelestra's plea, they can find her within the barrow den, where her family now rests together in peace. Grateful for the players' assistance, Kelestra expresses her gratitude and reflects on the memories she cherishes of her sister. Despite acknowledging Koroleth's wrongdoings, she chooses to remember her as the sister who cared deeply for her family and their shared experiences.

"I do not dispute what Koroleth did or the harm that she caused. But I never knew Koroleth the primalist. I knew Koroleth the druid, who dedicated her life to the balance and harmony of nature. I knew Koroleth the night elf, who would have given her life to protect Teldrassil and its people. I knew Koroleth, my sister, who would take me to the docks of Ruth'eran Village as a child to watch the ships sail by, and on the way home, buy a basket of Tundra Berries for me to munch on. That is the Koroleth I will remember."

  • Acceptance and Remembrance

For players who did not support Kelestra's cause, she instead chooses to bury her sister on the beach where Koroleth's remains were first found. Though not blaming the players for Malfurion's decision, this version of Kelestra seems angrier and darker, with hints of the same qualities that once defined her sister.

"I don't know what you said to Malfurion, but thank you for trying, . Since my sister is unwanted at Amirdrassil, I decided to lay her to rest here, where you found her. I know that my sister has wronged our people... but she's gone. Must they punish her for eternity? Can they not let go of their anger? Their hatred?"
