Dracthyr Race Potentially Expanding to Other Classes? - Update: Debunked by Blizzard

November 05, 2023 4 minutes

Hey everyone, WowCarry here with some exciting news from the world of Warcraft! In a recent screenshot from the Warbands expansion, players have noticed something quite interesting. The Dracthyr character in the screenshot is only level 13 and is seen wearing Leather armor. This has sparked speculation among the community, wondering if Dracthyr will be expanded to other classes in The War Within.

Update: We have some clarification from Blizzard themselves. During the WoW Deep Dive panel at BlizzCon, it was revealed that the Warband Character Select Screen shown in the screenshot is actually an internal mockup. Blizzard confirmed that there are no plans to introduce additional class options for Dracthyr in The War Within at this time. So it seems the level 13 Dracthyr wearing Leather armor was simply a mistake.

However, Blizzard did mention some exciting changes coming to the leveling experience in The War Within. Dragonflight will be the default leveling experience, allowing players to soar through the skies on the back of a dragon. Additionally, players who choose the Evoker class will now start at level 10 instead of the usual level 58. This change will provide a fresh and streamlined starting experience for Evokers.

What's Next in The War Within

In yesterday's presentation, Blizzard showcased a new screenshot from The War Within. Typically, Dracthyr characters can only be Evokers and begin their journey at level 58 in their own starting zone. So seeing a level 13 Dracthyr wearing Leather armor is definitely unusual. In fact, the armor he is wearing appears to be from a leather set obtained through outdoor activities in the Emerald Dream.

Considering that Dracthyr normally wear mail armor, this has raised even more eyebrows. Could this be a glimpse into a potential future expansion where Dracthyr gain the ability to wear Leather? Only time will tell.
