Earthen Tales: Stay Awhile & Listen to The War Within Alpha

April 19, 2024 3 minutes

During the War Within alpha, players have the opportunity to encounter the Earthen of Khaz Algar and learn fascinating details about their history and current situation. In this blog post, we will discuss the encounter with the Earthen and delve into the lore surrounding them.

The Speaker of the Earthen

Dagran Thaurissan II, the son of Moira Thaurissan and the heir to the Dark Iron throne, takes center stage during the War Within alpha. Previously known to players mostly as a baby, we get to spend time with the young Dagran and gain valuable insights about the Earthen of Khaz Algar. One of the key characters he interacts with is Speaker Brinthe, who imparts significant knowledge about the Earthen. Let's dive into the intriguing conversation between Dagran and Brinthe.

  • An Ancient Archive

Dagran begins the conversation by asking Speaker Brinthe about the length of time their city, Dornogal, has been in existence. Brinthe reveals that the exact duration is unknown, as their archive no longer functions. The archive would have contained this information, but its non-functioning state leaves the Earthen in the dark about their own history. Dagran, realizing the significance of this encounter, expresses his awe and marvels at the living relic before him.

Intrigued by the Earthen's memory system, Dagran further queries Brinthe about the concept of memory overwrite. Brinthe explains that an Earthen's memories are erased upon recharging, necessitating the uploading of memory gems to the archive during each charge cycle. Unfortunately, due to the catastrophic damage caused by the Sundering, both the archive and the Earthen's personal memory have been affected. Their memories from that time have been overwritten, making it difficult for them to recall the distant past.

Imminent Decline

The conversation takes a somber turn as Dagran learns about the impending decline of the Earthen. Brinthe reveals that the Earthen's inability to recharge will eventually lead to their stasis. Each Earthen has a different timeline, but they all have a limited lifespan. In the next ten centuries, they will all cease to function, marking the end of the Earthen civilization unless a solution is found.

  • A Glimmer of Hope

In this dire situation, the Machine Speakers, including Brinthe, are working tirelessly to reinitiate the damaged machines and find a way to recharge the Earthen. Dagran expresses his genuine hope for their success, recognizing the importance of their restoration efforts. The fate of the Earthen hangs in the balance, and the outcome of these restoration attempts will determine if the Earthen can continue existing in the future.

Restoration through Experience

Although the situation seems dire, there is hope for the Earthen. As players who have experienced the process of restoring Titan-forged beings, such as Tyr, throughout Dragonflight, we understand the intricacies involved. Reforging a body and recovering memories played a crucial role in Tyr's restoration. Given what we now know about the Earthen, it is possible that a similar restoration process could be undertaken for the Earthen of Khaz Algar.

In conclusion, the encounter with the Earthen in the War Within alpha sheds light on their unique history, their struggle to maintain their memories, and their impending decline. Players are now aware of the importance of finding a solution to restore the Earthen's ability to recharge and prevent their eventual stasis. As we continue our journey, we hope to aid the Earthen in their quest for restoration and witness the preservation of their ancient civilization.
