Fyr'alath the Dreamrender - Full Questline Walkthrough

November 28, 2023 6 minutes

With Echo's World First kill of Fyrakk taking place earlier today, the highly coveted legendary axe Fyr'alath the Dreamrender has finally dropped! To provide you with all the details, we have partnered with Meeres, the recipient of this amazing weapon. Please note that this post is still ongoing, and you can watch Meeres complete the questline in real time on his Twitch channel once he's online.

Starting the Fyr'alath Questline

The questline begins with the discovery of the item Fyr'alath the Dreamrender, which dropped for the first time during Echo's World First kill of Mythic Fyrakk. This powerful axe, although equippable, engulfs the user in Shadowflame and begins to overpower them. Completing this step will lead you to the next quest, The Shadowflame Axe, which requires you to seek out an expert in Shadowflame at the Azerothian Archives.

The location of the Azerothian Archives, previously hinted in the Patch 10.2.5 preview, is found on the floating isles just north of Alge'thar Academy in Thaldraszsus. There, you will come across Eadweard Dalyngrigge, a renowned Lead Archivist and a supposed expert in Shadowflame. Eadweard informs you in the quest Handling It that you must modify the weapon's haft with three essential components in order for it to withstand the power of its head:

  • A fireproof hide capable of handling intense heat: Handling It - Symbiotic Glowspore Grip
  • An enchanted vellum that can contain the weapon's volatile magic: Handling It - Concentrated Sophic Vellum
  • Runes to bind the first two materials to the weapon effectively: Handling It - Rune of Shadowbinding

  • Leatherworking - Symbiotic Glowspore Grip

The first component, the Symbiotic Glowspore Grip, can be acquired from Erden, a centaur located just east of Mountainview Post in the Ohn'ahran Plains. To obtain it, you must embark on the quest Handling It - Shadowed Dreamleaf, which involves collecting 200 Shadowed Dreamleaf by completing objectives in the Superbloom events in the Emerald Dream.

During a Superbloom, the holder of Fyr'alath will receive a Tattered Dreamleaf. When used on a party member, it will trigger the quest Tattered Dreamleaf, requiring them to participate in the Superbloom events. Once the party member completes this quest, they will receive a Restored Dreamleaf, which can be given back to the holder of Fyr'alath to increase the rate at which they acquire Shadowed Dreamleaves.

Completing this quest rewards you with the Prototype Dreamleaf Grip. The subsequent quest, Handling It - Dreamleaf Grip, provides you with a scroll that temporarily allows a character with Dragon Isles Leatherworking skill of 100 to learn the recipe for Erden's Dreamleaf Grip. Craft the grip using the following materials:

Zaralek Glowspores x400 Obsidian Cobraskin x3 Prototype Dreamleaf Grip x1 Dreaming Essence x5 Mireslush Hide x50

The next step involves testing the Glowspore Grip. Completing the quest To the Test: Symbiotic Glowspore Grip requires you to test the grip's effectiveness by grabbing a buff from it, equipping the axe, and surviving the Shadowflame. You will be provided with an Adaptive Cooling Salve to help you withstand the intense heat. Additionally, having a healer on hand to provide pocket healing can greatly aid you in progressing through this part of the quest. Successfully completing this quest rewards you with the Attuned Glowspore Grip, thus completing the Leatherworking aspect of the questline.

  • Enchanting - Concentrated Sophic Vellum

For the Enchanting component, the Concentrated Sophic Vellum, you will need to seek out Shalasar Glimmerdusk, a nightborne located near the Nelthazan Ruins in the Ohn'ahran Plains. To obtain it, you must undertake the quest Handling It - Radiant Fleck of Ash, which requires you to collect 20 Radiant Flecks of Ash from powerful pieces of gear found within the Emerald Dream.

In Meeres's Twitch stream, it was revealed that he obtained 1 Radiant Fleck of Ash per loot piece acquired in the Emerald Dream. It was also discovered that you could purchase the Fallen Protector Handguards from Moon Priestess Lasara at Renown 7 with the Dream Wardens. This means that by purchasing 20 pieces at a cost of 300 Dragon Isles Supplies each (totaling 6000 Dragon Isles Supplies), you can complete this step effortlessly.

Completing this quest rewards you with the Prototype Order Vellum. The follow-up quest, Handling It: Sophic Vellum, grants you a scroll that temporarily allows a character with Dragon Isles Enchanting skill of 100 to learn the recipe for Shalasar's Sophic Vellum. Craft the vellum using the following materials:

Awakened Fire x150 Awakened Earth x100 Awakened Order x50 Resonant Crystal x200 Prototype Order Vellum x1

Next, you must test the Sophic Vellum. In the quest To the Test: Concentrated Sophic Vellum, you will repeatedly channel the vellum every 5 minutes to stabilize the shadowflame within Fyr'alath. Each channel requires 10 random Awakened elements to complete. Each successful Order stabilization grants 5% quest progression, meaning you must complete this step a total of 20 times to finish the quest. Successfully completing this step rewards you with the Attuned Sophic Vellum, thus completing the Enchanting segment of the questline.

  • Inscription - Rune of Shadowbinding

The Inscription component, the Rune of Shadowbinding, can be acquired from Lydiara Whisperfeather, found by the Azure Archives in the Azure Span. To obtain it, you must undertake the quest Handling It: Taut Tethercoil, which requires you to collect 50 Taut Tethercoil from rare mobs in the Emerald Dream.

In Meeres's Twitch stream, it was observed that killing both Rare and Rare Elite mobs in the Emerald Dream would yield 1-3 Radiant Flecks of Ash. Completing this step awards you with the Prototype Binding Rune. The follow-up quest, Handling It: Shadowbinding Rune, provides you with a scroll that temporarily allows a character with Dragon Isles Inscription skill of 100 to learn the recipe for Lydiara's Binding Rune. Craft the rune using the following materials:

Shadowflame Essence x10 Prototype Binding Rune x1 Cosmic Ink x250 Runed Writhebark x50

Next, you must test the Rune of Shadowbinding in the quest To the Test: Rune of Shadowbinding. This requires you to defeat Gnarlroot, Igira, and Volcoross in the Amirdrassil raid while under the effects of the Shadowbinding rune. Keep in mind that using the rune will tether you to these bosses, slowing you down when away from them and occasionally hindering your mobility every 5 seconds. Complete this step to obtain the Attuned Rune of Shadowbinding, which completes the Inscription segment of the questline.

The Echo of Fyrakk

After obtaining all three profession items, you will be directed to the Obsidian Throne to meet with Eadweard, Wrathion, and Scalecommander Emberthal. Here, you will attempt once again to wield the axe, but an unyielding presence is still holding onto it. Subsequently, you will be sent to a scenario in Aberrus, where you must confront the Echo of Fyrakk. This is a challenging fight where you must battle Fyrakk's lingering presence, dodge waves of attacks, eliminate shadow adds, and survive the Echo's burning phase.

Once you successfully defeat the Echo of Fyrakk in this state, you will finally obtain your deserved reward - Fyr'alath the Dreamrender, a legendary axe that stands as a testament to your triumph and perseverance. Now is the time to conquer the content that came with the Guardians of the Dream update!
