Limitation of Dragonriding Speed to 80% Outside Dragon Isles Announced for Outland Cup

November 17, 2023 4 minutes

Welcome to our blog post! In the latest PTR patch notes for version 10.2.5, players in the world of Azeroth will soon be able to embark on epic Dragonrides throughout the beloved lands. Dragonriding has become an exhilarating new feature that allows players to soar through the skies of Azeroth, much like the dragons themselves. However, there are a few restrictions to ensure that the experience remains balanced and immersive.

Introducing Dragonriding in Azeroth

The development team at Blizzard has made dragonriding available wherever flying is permitted in Azeroth, giving players the opportunity to explore the world from a whole new perspective. However, in order to preserve the integrity and challenge of older world content, the speed of dragonriding mounts outside of the Dragon Isles will be limited to 80% of their maximum speed.

The reasoning behind this decision is to strike a balance between providing players with exciting and engaging traversal, while still maintaining a sense of immersion within the game world. The Dragon Isles continent, in particular, is vast and expansive, necessitating adjustments to the speed of dragonriding in order to ensure a balanced experience across all regions of Azeroth.

The Exciting Outland Cup

As part of the upcoming PTR testing phase, Blizzard will be introducing a thrilling new event called the Outland Cup. From November 16 to November 29, players will have the opportunity to participate in dragonriding races across Outland, the shattered world that serves as the primary setting for the expansion "Burning Crusade".

The Outland Cup features thirteen exciting new race courses, spread across various locations in Outland. These races are categorized into Normal, Advanced, and Reverse courses, providing players with a variety of challenges to overcome. Each race course has its own unique name, such as Hellfire Hustle, Coilfang Caper, Blade's Edge Brawl, and more.

For dedicated racers looking to show off their skills, a range of new rewards will be available for purchase using Riders of Azeroth Badges. These rewards include the stylish Drake Racer's Scarf, the Outlandish Drake Racer's transmog set, new dragon customizations, the coveted Valdrakken Accord Insignia, and the Manuscript of Endless Possibility, which randomizes mount customizations on each use.

Reward Obtained with Riders of Azeroth Badges
Drake Racer's Scarf 100 Badges
Outlandish Drake Racer's transmog set 500 Badges
New dragon customizations 250 Badges each
Valdrakken Accord Insignia 1000 Badges
Manuscript of Endless Possibility 1500 Badges

For the most dedicated racers, achieving Gold rank in all Outland Cup races will unlock the prestigious achievement "Outland Racing Completionist: Gold", along with the exclusive Outland Racer title and the Ruby Riders of Azeroth tabard.

To ensure that all participants have a fair chance at success, players will have access to a fully-maxed Dragonriding Talent Tree specifically for the Outland Cup races. This allows racers to make use of all available dragonriding abilities and enhancements, giving them an edge on the competition.

Blizzard has also made changes to the introductory quest for the Outland Cup. In order to participate, players must now complete all of the available races. Those who successfully complete this quest will be rewarded with 40 Riders of Azeroth Badges to kickstart their collection.

Even players who have not yet unlocked the ability to ride dragons will have the opportunity to participate in the thrilling races. Thanks to loaned dragonriding mounts, they can experience the excitement of the Outland Cup firsthand.

Additionally, in light of the recent changes to dragonriding abilities, players who have already unlocked dragonriding will no longer be dismounted after completing a race. However, for those who have not yet unlocked this feature, finishing a race will still result in dismounting.

Conclusion

The introduction of dragonriding throughout Azeroth opens up new possibilities for exploration and adventure. With the Outland Cup providing challenging and exciting races across the shattered world of Outland, players can put their skills to the test and earn fantastic rewards. Whether soaring through the skies or competing in thrilling races, dragonriding in Azeroth promises to be an immersive and unforgettable experience for all players.
