Lore Focus: The Remaking of Tyr's Guard in 10.1.7
The Tyr's Guard, a once secret order of Paladins dedicated to protecting the tomb of Tyr, has made a triumphant return in the latest chapter of Dragonflight. Led by the last surviving member, Travard, this reformed order is on a mission to resurrect the Keeper of Tyr.
The New Tyr's Guard
Originally formed by the Vrykul to guard Tyr's tomb in Tirisfal, the Tyr's Guard has evolved into an order of Paladins with the inclusion of humans over the years. However, during the Third War, the Scourge nearly wiped out the order, leaving only a handful, led by Travard, to carry on their sacred duty. Travard continued his vigil alone after the tomb partially collapsed during the events of Legion.
In Dragonflight, Travard emerges from the buried tomb to join the efforts to resurrect Tyr. To achieve this, the Tyr's Guard must retrieve a disc containing Tyr's memories, which is believed to be hidden by the Infinite in a version of the Nighthold, under the rule of Elisande. The focus of the new Tyr's Guard is no longer just protecting a tomb, but rather restoring Tyr himself.
A new vessel has been created to serve as Tyr's body, and each new recruit represents one of the principles that the Tyr's Guard upholds. The Tyr's Guard's primary objective is to retrieve the disc of Tyr's memories and aid in the resurrection of the Keeper, a story expected to conclude in 10.2.
The Exemplars of Tyr's Guard
The reformed Tyr's Guard consists of four exemplary members, each embodying a specific virtue. These members include Hadwin, the Exemplar of Justice, a former Kul Tiran Inquisitor; Valunei, the Exemplar of Compassion, a Lightforged Draenei from Argus; Nolaki, the Exemplar of Sacrifice, a Zandalari Troll; and Talthis, the Exemplar of Order, a Blood Knight from Silvermoon.
Hadwin, Exemplar of Justice
Hadwin's journey to becoming a member of the Tyr's Guard began when he defied his family's expectations and pursued a path of justice. Unhappy with the town's lack of action against injustice, Hadwin took matters into his own hands. His commitment to righting wrongs eventually led him to join the Order of Embers in Drustvar and later become a paladin. Travard and Koranos discovered Hadwin's dedication and recruited him into the New Tyr's Guard.
Valunei, Exemplar of Compassion
Valunei's journey as a member of the Tyr's Guard started on Argus, where she became a paladin to protect her people from the Legion's threat. After losing her mentor, she felt lost herself until she crossed paths with Travard and Koranos on the Dragon Isles. Intrigued by the stories of Tyr's heroics shared by Travard, Valunei found renewed purpose as a member of the Tyr's Guard.
Nolaki, Exemplar of Sacrifice
Nolaki, a young Zandalari Troll, felt the call to use the Light to protect those in need after witnessing the sacrifice of his mentor during the Battle of Dazar'alor. Drawn to Tyr's legendary heroism, Nolaki joined the Tyr's Guard to continue fighting for his people and his newfound friends. With his selflessness and determination, Nolaki embodies the virtue of sacrifice within the Tyr's Guard.
Talthis, Exemplar of Order
Talthis was driven to become a member of the Tyr's Guard after witnessing the chaos and suffering caused by the Scourge's invasion of Silvermoon. Wanting to restore order and protect his city, Talthis sought solace in the Light and joined the Blood Knights. Travard and Koranos encountered Talthis during their mission to restore order in the Dread Scar, leading them to invite him to join the reformed Tyr's Guard as the Exemplar of Order.
Tyrhold Headquarters
After their 10.1.7 questline, the reforged Tyr's Guard has established their new headquarters at Tyrhold. From this base, they are making the necessary preparations for their journey to Suramar, where their quest to resurrect Tyr will continue.
