New In-Game Cinematic Teases Exciting Conclusion to Emerald Dream Storyline

October 13, 2023 5 minutes

In the latest PTR build, we datamined the name of a new in-game cinematic coming in Patch 10.2 that might provide some hints at the Guardians of the Dream story campaign finale and potentially the future of the Night Elves. Unfortunately, the in-game cinematic is encrypted and only the first 5 of the 7 campaign chapters are currently testable on the PTR including the10.1.7 Shandris Feathermoon Questline and the first 4 storylines of the Defenders of the Dream achievement. Therefore, we don't have a ton of context for what the title 'New Moon' could mean, but let's speculate anyway...

New Beginnings

In chapter 5 of the campaign storyline, we successfully defend the Eye of Ysera against the Djaradin assault leading to an unavailable cutscene, but Ysera has failed to channel the Eye. Ysera suggests that she can't channel the eye not because of her fall but instead Merithra's rise as the new aspect and encourages Merithra to commune with the Eye and deepen her bond with the Dream then regroup at Amirdrassil.

That leaves us with the final two storylines from the Defenders of the Dream achievement, A Dream of Fields and Fire & New Beginnings. The former could likely be the raid quest for Amirdrassil, the Dreams Hope where we'll need to enter the raid and defend the nascent world tree by dispatching Fyrakk and his allies. The latter could likely be part of the epilogue of the Amirdrassil raid. New Beginnings definitely suggests a new start for all dragonkind potentially blessed by Amirdrassil to provide them new agency as protectors of Azeroth but perhaps not just for dragons. New Moon may suggest another ripple in this new beginning definitely evoking the Moon Goddess Elune.

The Moon Goddess Elune

Strongly associated with the moon, Elune has close associations with many of the factions at play in 10.2. It's by the grace of Elune that we even have the nascent world tree Amirdrassil. From the combined powers of Elune and her sister the Winter Queen as well as an infusion of souls from Night Elf souls who died during the burning of Teldrassil, the seed of Amirdrassil was formed to become a part of a "New Beginning" for the Night Elves. Yes, the exact name of the final story chapter which could mean this is the culmination of that storyline.

If Ardenweald led by the Winter Queen represents the waning stages of life or endings, then the Emerald Dream represents the waxing stages of life when they're at their full bloom or the beginnings. Elune claims the Emerald Dream at least in part as her domain and the cycle of life and death can be observed between her and her sister.

As guardian of the Emerald Dream, Ysera was charged with the protection of Elune's domain and as mother to Elune's own child, Cenarius, leading to a strong bond between these two entities. This close relationship between goddess and guardian can be witnessed during the Val'Sharah finale when a nightmare-corrupted Ysera falls at the Temple of Elune. Elune reaches down and cleanses Ysera's spirit and body the lifts her spirit with tendrils of moonlight and disappears in a dragon-shaped constellation. Yet despite this close connection to the Night Elves, Ysera, and the Emerald Dream, Elune has been notably absent thus far in Dragonflight. Could this 'New Moon' in-game cinematic bring in the final power player of the Emerald Dream? Could we see the Moon Goddess Elune finally revealed?

Night Elf Heritage Armor

A set of NPCs with a currently unknown location were added in 10.2 named the Sentinel of the New Moon. Yes, 'New Moon' just like the in-game cinematic name. What's more curious than just the name is the armor these Night Elf NPCs are wearing, specifically the unreleased tint of the Night Elf Heritage Armor. Could the original Heritage Armor tint represent the past for Night Elves and this new tint represent their future, this New Beginning and New Moon?

Players were initially upset after not receiving the blue armor tint that was previously teased by Blizzard. In a post on their official X account, they have stated that the blue tint of the set is coming in the future. Could the finale of the 10.2 Story campaign be how players receive this alternate tint?

  • Night Elf Heritage Armor Questline and Rewards

The Night Elf Heritage Armor questline will take players on a journey through the history and culture of the Night Elves. By completing various tasks and challenges, players will earn pieces of the Heritage Armor set. The set includes a helmet, chestpiece, leggings, gloves, and boots, all designed to showcase the unique style of the Night Elves.

Quest Reward
Search for the Feathermoon Sentinel's Boots
Lost in Ashenvale Sentinel's Leggings
Remember the Battle of Mount Hyjal Sentinel's Chestpiece
Rescue the Sentinels Sentinel's Gloves
Defend Nordrassil Sentinel's Helmet

Completing the final quest in the Night Elf Heritage Armor questline will reward players with the full set of armor, allowing them to fully embrace their Night Elf heritage and showcase their dedication to protecting Azeroth.

Conclusion

The upcoming in-game cinematic 'New Moon' in Patch 10.2 has sparked speculation about the future of the Night Elves and the possible reveal of the Moon Goddess Elune. With the final chapters of the story campaign and the introduction of the Sentinel of the New Moon NPCs wearing an unreleased tint of the Night Elf Heritage Armor, it seems that a new beginning is on the horizon for the Night Elves. Players will have the opportunity to uncover the mysteries of the Emerald Dream, defend Amirdrassil, and earn the coveted Night Elf Heritage Armor. As the story unfolds, we eagerly await the conclusion and what it may mean for the future of Azeroth.
