Blizzard wasted no time sharing the exciting details of their BlizzCon 2023 Deep Dive panel for World of Warcraft. In this recap, we will explore the upcoming features, including Delves, Warbands, Hero Talents, the Earthen Allied Race, dynamic flight, PvP updates, and more!

Introducing Delves: Quick Adventures for Everyone

One of the highlights of the upcoming expansion, The War Within, is the introduction of Delves. These quick adventures can be experienced solo, with friends, or as a dungeon group, providing a new endgame pillar alongside dungeons, raids, and PvP.

Designed to offer variety, flexibility, and replayability, Delves take place in Khaz Algar and feature 12 different adventures to embark on. Each Delve integrates seamlessly into the outdoor realm, allowing players to unravel mysteries, seek out treasure, and overcome challenges through 10-15 minute adventures.

With inspiration from previous features like Torghast, Islands, and Scenarios, Delves aim to provide more player choice and variety. Players can expect new seasonal rewards, including NPC companions like Brann Bronzebeard, who will level up and be customizable to complement their characters' needs.

  • Key Features of Delves:

  1. Quick adventures lasting 10-15 minutes
  2. Mysteries to unravel and treasures to discover throughout Khaz Algar
  3. New seasonal rewards and NPC companions like Brann Bronzebeard
  4. No loading screens for a seamless experience
  5. Various valuable rewards, including currency, gold, and cosmetics

  • Delve Locations:

Location Environment
Isle of Dorn Hallowfall
The Ringing Deeps Azj-Kahet
Earthcrawl Mines Skittering Breach
The Waterworks The Spiral Weave
Kriegval’s Rest Nightfall Sanctum
The Dread Pit Rak-Rethan Abyss
Fungal Folly The Sinkhole
Deepwalker Hold Mycomancer Cavern

Delves offer different difficulty tiers and corresponding rewards, ensuring that every adventurer can find the perfect challenge.

The Great Vault: A Hub for Rewards

The Great Vault is undergoing significant updates in The War Within. This hub for rewards now includes a "World" category, allowing players who participate in outdoor activities to earn rewards. By completing outdoor objectives or Delves, players can unlock rewards based on their completed difficulty level, comparable to Heroic raiding or high-level dungeons.

In addition, PvP rewards are no longer tied to the Guild Vault. Instead, players will receive additional Conquest points to purchase the items they desire.

The Great Vault will feature various cosmetic items, such as fun and unique helms like a fungarian hat, kobold helm with candles, and the fearsome kobyss helm. Players who partake in Delves will also have the opportunity to unlock a new customizable flying mount.

Warbands: Reflection of Accomplishments

In response to changing player habits, Warbands aims to create a more alt-friendly experience in World of Warcraft. As the leveling experience has become faster over time, players are now more inclined to level up multiple alternative characters. Warbands intends to reset the foundation of the game, reflecting the accomplishments of individual players across all their characters on their Battle.net account.

  • Warbands Features:

  • Warband Bank: Convenient storage accessible across all characters on a Battle.net account
  • Warbound Items: Bonus personal loot items that can be shared with alternate characters
  • Transmogrification Collection: Expandable to include class-specific items, even if a character cannot equip them
  • Warband Reputations: Unlocked reputations on one character will be available for all characters on the same account
  • Flight Paths: Once unlocked on one character, all characters in a Warband can access them
  • Delves: Companion NPC leveling accessible to all Warband characters
  • Achievements: All achievements will be account-wide, rewarding individual players instead of specific characters
  • Login Screen: Allows players to choose their next adventure with a selection of their characters on the login screen

Hero Talents: Delve Deeper into Class Fantasy

Hero talents bring a new layer of progression and choice to the class experience. In The War Within, players will earn 10 new talent points for each of the 10 levels gained. These talents focus on class fantasy, offering flexibility and customization while avoiding unnecessary complexities.

With four available specializations, the development of Hero talents began with druids. For example, a Balance druid may choose between the Keeper of the Grove and Elune's Chosen talent paths, granting additional abilities and options. Players can swap talents as needed, similar to the existing talent system.

Each class specialization will have access to two out of the three Hero talent trees: Class, Hero, and Specialization. With 10 talent points available, players can gradually unlock all nodes on a particular Hero tree, choosing their preferred order as they level up. Specific content types will offer additional choice nodes within the Hero tree.

  • Example Hero Talent Trees:

Class Specialization Hero Talent Trees
Death Knight Rider of the Apocalypse, San'layn, Deahtbringer
Hunter Sentinel, Pack Leader, Dark Ranger
Priest Voidweaver, Oracle, Archon
Warrior Colossus, Slayer, Mountain Thane
...and many more ...

These Hero talent trees offer unique abilities and playstyles for each specialization, enhancing class fantasy and providing exciting choices for players to make.

The Earthen Allied Race and Dynamic Flight

Players will have the opportunity to unlock the Earthen Allied Race by completing The War Within's campaign and endgame questline. The Earthen race can join either the Horde or the Alliance and will be compatible with various classes.

In terms of flight, dynamic flight is here to stay and will be available for many flying mounts in all flyable areas, even prior to The War Within's launch. Players will have the option to toggle between dynamic flight and the original flying style introduced in The Burning Crusade. Dynamic Flight will be accessible from the start in Khaz Algar, with the classic flying style unlockable at maximum level by exploring The War Within's zones and completing the campaign.

Furthermore, players will be able to collect glyphs throughout Khaz Algar, eliminating the need to revisit Dragonflight to obtain missed glyphs. Base abilities like increased Vigor will be integrated into Dynamic Flight and available to everyone as they level up.

Additionally, a new 10v10 capture-point battleground set in the Ringing Deeps is being introduced, offering thrilling PvP encounters.

Interface Improvements and Cross-Realm Guilds

As part of the ongoing efforts to refine the user interface, the Spellbook and quest interface are receiving updates. The Spellbook will feature a cleaner layout, optimized for modern display resolutions, and will consolidate spells, talents, and specialization information into one tab.

The quest interface will offer improved filtering options and the ability to hide or show objectives in the quest log, resulting in a more streamlined and efficient experience. Icon designs will also receive a fresh look.

Furthermore, cross-realm guild functionality is being introduced, allowing players to freely apply for or recruit new members regardless of the realm they are on. Mythic raiding will be available right from the start of The War Within, and the Hall of Fame will no longer be tied to content unlock requirements. These changes aim to enhance social interaction and allow players to connect with their friends across realms.

Final Thoughts: Advancing in The War Within

As development continues, more exciting updates and features of The War Within will be revealed. The expansion promises to build upon the foundations laid by previous expansions, incorporating player feedback and offering compelling gameplay experiences.
