The Quest for Night Elf Heritage Armor in Patch 10.1.7 (Spoilers)

September 05, 2023 8 minutes

The Night Elf heritage armor questline is now available on live servers in Patch 10.1.7, so we've played through to find out what happens and earn the Kaldorei Protector's Adornment and extra rewards! Warning: Major Questline Story Spoilers within!

The Clarion Call

The questline starts with The Clarion Call, which is a message from Arko'narin Starshade, summoning the player to the Stormwind Embassy, as Maiev has requested for us, as Tyrande has called the Wardens to action in Felwood.

Ancient Curses

In Ancient Curses we learn that the call is about a resurgence of demonic corruption in Felwood. Tyrande sent a contingent of Sentinels to investigate, but none of them returned, so she asked for Maiev's help, which asked for the player's assistance personally.

There we also meet Maiev's assistance during this mission, the siblings Arko'narin Starshade and Lysander Starshade. At first glance, we already have questions about Arko'narin, noting that she has a Sword for a weapon, instead of a Glaive like other Wardens. When we ask her about it, she tells us that the sword is a memento.

"This... does not belong to me. It belonged to a dear friend of mine, Trey Lightforge. Trey and I were investigating the resurgence of the Shadow Council when we were captured in Jaedenar. I... heard what these foul demons did to him from my cell. He did not survive. I still miss him every day. But carrying his blade... I feel as though Trey is never far from me. He may have passed on, but Lightforge will always have my back."

After accepting the quest, we listen to the siblings talking about the mission. Arko'narin Starshade: All that pacing is making me nervous, brother. Lysander Starshade: Nari... I do not know if I am ready for this. Arko'narin Starshade: You're the one always telling me to be strong in the face of adversity, Lysander. Arko'narin Starshade: I don't have time to sit here and reassure you. Lysander Starshade: I wasn't asking for --I'll... I'll be fine. Arko'narin Starshade: Let's go. Arko'narin Starshade: Meet us in Felwood, champion. We will be waiting for you there.

Arriving in Felwood, we find Maiev inspecting a Kaldorei corpse, a Priestess of the moon named Kaylessa Duskwhisper.

Maiev Shadowsong: Another Lost, when we've lost so many already. Arko'narin Starshade: Did she... fall like the others? Maiev Shadowsong: Yes. The trail leads to here. The moonwell nearby has been tainted by a foul corruption. Arko'narin, champion, I'll need your assistance to clear the area. Maiev Shadowsong: And you as well, mage.... Maiev Shadowsong: May Elune welcome you into her embrace, sister.

This is a good time to highlight, but Lysander is a Kaldorei Mage. Historically, Maiev has a distaste for arcane users, so she is not too happy to be working with one.

A Grim Portent

With A Grim Portent, we learn from Maiev that Tyrande had sent Kaylessa to Felwood to cleanse the moonwell in the region to help fight the corruption, in order to aid the Kaldorei in reclaiming Felwood back to their territory. Our mission here is to finish what Kaylessa started and cleanse the moonwell. Also, she tells us that Arko'narin has a history with Jaedenar and she will let her tell us about it.

When cleansing the Satyrs, we learn that they were former Sentinels, corrupted to become Satyr by the cultists.

When finishing the quest, Lysander has a dialogue about his sister always seeing him as a child, despite his age, and that he is not blind to the problems that plague the Kaldorei, which is why he will not fail his people. We then ask him his age, which he reveals to be very young, born right after the Battle of Mount Hyjal.

Stepping into the Shadows

In Stepping into the Shadows, we enter Shadow Hold with the help of Maiev. Our mission here is to cleanse Felflame Braziers and discover what lurks in the depths of Shadow Hold.

As we go down, we learn more about Shadow Hold.

When turning the quest to Arko'narin, she tells us that she recognizes that her brother is determined... and brave.

Warden's Wrath

The next quest is Warden's Wrath, in which Arko'narin tells us that Hel'nurath's hubris gave them an opportunity to study what he is doing. She has a plan on how to stop him, but she will rely on her brother for it. Hel'nurath is protecting a lot of summoning portals, which can be disrupted.

We attack Hel'nurath, we must protect Lysander while he disrupts his ritual. As we finish it the following cinematic plays.

The next quest is A Mark for a Protector, which shows the ceremony of Lysander receiving his markings.

The final quest of the questline is Honor the Goddess.

After completing the questline, we receive a mail from Tyrande, which reads:

"Maiev told me of her mission's success--and your aid.

Never forget, you are more than a defender. Your presence serves as an inspiration to those around you, bringing our people together. It is this that marks you as the most honored of Elune. And it is for this that you will always be treasured.

Maiev is right. We cannot stand forever in the traditions of old. We must continue to evolve, as the world evolves around us.

To that end, she recommended Lysander as a potential recruit for the Sentinels. I am reaching out to him to offer the position myself. If our Warden sees such promise in him, he must be someone special.

After all, she saw the same promise in you.

Rest well, Ama'shan.

Ama'shan

Today is a day of celebration, . And a day of new beginnings.

Arko'narin and Lysander have reminded me that the Kaldorei are no strangers to change. I forget, sometimes, how long I was away, and just how much my kin have progressed in my absence.

Lysander celebrates this day, but your service also deserves to be recognized. Come, .

Maiev Shadowsong: Champion... despite all we have been through, your devotion to your people has never wavered.

Maiev Shadowsong: You carry the honor of the goddess with you, and you should carry the name as well.

Maiev Shadowsong: Ama'shan

Maiev Shadowsong: May Elune guide you--and may your path continue to inspire us all.
