The Retaking of Gilneas: A Narrative with Nobbel87

January 22, 2024 3 minutes

In patch 10.2.5, the long-awaited Retaking of Gilneas has finally arrived. This update allows the Worgen to reclaim their home city, which was lost during the Cataclysm expansion. The story behind this retaking is quite intriguing, and Nobbel87 has taken the time to share it in his latest video.

The Story So Far

In the world of Azeroth, Gilneas was one of the older human kingdoms and played a role in the war against the Horde. However, after the damage caused by the war, King Genn Greymane became dissatisfied with the Alliance and decided that Gilneas could fend for itself. He built a massive wall to separate his people from external threats.

Unfortunately, when the Cataclysm occurred, the Horde saw an opportunity to claim Gilneas. The Forsaken, led by Sylvanas Windrunner, fought against the Gilneans, who had transformed into Worgen and were defending their home. Ultimately, the Gilneans were forced to abandon their city.

Over time, Genn Greymane lost his son and saw Sylvanas and the Horde burn down Teldrassil, the home of the night elves who had once saved the Gilneans. With these events, Genn's views on the Horde and Sylvanas became deeply rooted in anger and a desire for vengeance.

The Forsaken's Involvement

Under Calia Menethil's leadership, the Forsaken have promised to relinquish their hold on Gilneas and return it to its rightful owners. However, during the retaking of the city, the Scarlet Crusade unexpectedly shows up and asserts their control over Gilneas. This is where players come in to assist in the fight against the Crusaders and reclaim the city.

Calia Menethil, resurrected by the Light, and Lilian Voss, a former member of the Scarlet Crusade turned Forsaken, work together with the Desolate Council to help the Forsaken find their place in the world. The Scarlet Crusade, driven by zealotry and hatred for anything they perceive as unnatural or corrupt, has proven to be a formidable enemy.

  • The Battle for Gilneas

In the battle for Gilneas, players must join forces with Genn Greymane, Queen Tess Greymane, and other key figures to drive out the Scarlet Crusade. The city's chapel serves as the stronghold for the Crusaders, and defeating their leader, Inquisitor Fairbell, is crucial to reclaiming the city.

The fight against Fairbell showcases the power of the Light and its ability to transform individuals into hallowed monstrosities. The battle is intense, but with the might of Gilneas and the combined efforts of the Worgen and other allies, victory is within reach.

Future Developments and Rewards

With the retaking of Gilneas complete, the torch has been passed to the next generation. Queen Tess Greymane takes on a leadership role, while Genn Greymane continues to provide guidance as an advisor. The future of Gilneas holds promise, and players can expect to see the city grow and be filled with life once again.

As a reward for their efforts, players receive a new mount and a transmog set. Worgen players also gain access to a specific toy, the Memorial Bouquet, which holds a sentimental value tied to the story of Liam Greymane and his sister Tess.

NPCs of Gilneas

Exploring the newly reclaimed city, players will encounter various NPCs who bring hope and contribute to the rebuilding of Gilneas. These NPCs include Celestine of the Harvest, Marcus, Lord Hewel, Tobias Mistmantle, Lord Darius Crowley, Lorna Crowley, Krennan Aranas, Grandma Wahl, and the Hammonds family.

These NPCs each have unique stories and perspectives, showcasing the resilience and determination of the Gilnean people. It is heartening to witness the reunion and rebuilding efforts taking place within the city walls.

As we look to the future, we can only hope that peace and prosperity will continue to flourish in Gilneas. The retaking of this city is a significant milestone in World of Warcraft, and it is exciting to see the story progress in such a meaningful way.
