Winners of the 2023 World of Warcraft Student Art Contest

Blizzard Entertainment has recently announced the winners of its highly anticipated 13th annual World of Warcraft Student Art Contest. This contest, presented by Blizzard Entertainment’s Early Careers and World of Warcraft development teams, showcases the remarkable talent and creativity of students in various art disciplines. After much deliberation, the judges have selected the winning entries in the Environmental Art, Character Art, FX, and Animation categories.

Environmental Art Category

The winner of the Environmental Art category is Joshua Tyer from Laguna College of Art and Design. His stunning artwork titled "Glade of Ysera" captures the beauty of the magical forest in the world of World of Warcraft. The intricate details and vibrant colors transport viewers into a world filled with enchantment and wonder.

The runners-up in this category are Fred Osborn from College for Creative Studies with his artwork "Journey to Oasis," showcasing a captivating desert landscape, and Kyle Chen from University of Central Florida with his artwork "Forge in Darkmaul Plains," featuring a formidable forge set in a rugged environment.

Character Art Category

Ryle Sammut from Savannah College of Art and Design takes home the first place in the Character Art category with his artwork titled "Sphynx Cat Desert Assassin." This unique character design showcases a fierce and mysterious feline warrior ready for battle. The attention to detail in the character's armor and expression is truly remarkable.

Jonathan Nhim from DigiPen Institute of Technology and Andrew Moon, also from DigiPen Institute of Technology, both secured the runner-up positions in this category. Nhim's artwork titled "Heartsbane Refugee: Worshipper of Elune" portrays a devoted follower of the goddess Elune, while Moon's artwork "Heebo the Hippo" presents a lovable and whimsical hippo character.

FX Category

The FX category winner is Quynh Ton from Ferris State University, whose artwork "Arcane Rain" showcases a spellcasting effect with spectacular visual impact. The combination of vibrant colors and magical elements creates a sense of awe and wonder.

Christian Baca from Full Sail University secures the runner-up position in this category with his artwork "Moonkin, Nebula Beam." This mesmerizing artwork features a celestial creature summoning a powerful beam of energy.

Animation Category

Theresa Chang from California College of the Arts emerges as the winner of the Animation category with her artwork titled "Two-Hit Combo Attack." This dynamic animation sequence portrays a skilled warrior executing a precise combination of attacks with fluidity and finesse.

The runner-up in this category is Hee Seung Chung from the School of Visual Arts with his artwork "Two Hit Attack," which showcases a similar combat sequence with a unique artistic style.

The winners from each category will have the opportunity to participate in a 1-hour virtual mentorship with a Senior Blizzard Artist, providing them with invaluable guidance and advice to further develop their artistic skills and careers.
