Adjustments to Starsurge Nerf and Blood Moon Event - Unveiling the Season of Discovery

February 12, 2024 3 minutes

Blizzard's Season of Discovery in World of Warcraft: Classic is undergoing some adjustments, according to a recent update from the development team. In this blog post we will explore the upcoming changes and their impact on the game.

Quest Creature Availability in the Open World

One of the issues that players have been facing is the availability of quest creatures in the open world. In response to this, the development team is currently investigating the problem and working on potential solutions. They aim to address player concerns without causing any unintended side effects.

In the meantime, the team has made some minor adjustments to layer population target numbers. This change will help distribute players across more layers, creating a fuller world without overwhelming quest areas. However, it is important to note that this is a temporary measure while they explore more permanent solutions, as less populated zones may feel sparser than desired.

Stranglethorn Vale Blood Moon Event

The Blood Moon Event in Stranglethorn Vale has proven to be a popular activity among players. However, the development team acknowledges that there are some aspects of the event that could be improved. Within the next 24-48 hours, they will be implementing the following changes:

  1. The Blood Moon buff gained during the event will now increase player stamina by 30%.
  2. The duration of the Bloodless effect, received after death, will be adjusted to last for 20 seconds instead of 1 minute.
  3. In addition to its current effects, the Bloodless effect will now grant a pacify and invisibility effect. This will allow players to resurrect, move away from graveyards/chained spirits, summon pets, and reset after combat more efficiently.
  4. Zandalari Emissaries will receive a more pronounced visual effect, making them easier to spot in spawn locations such as Booty Bay, Grom’gol, Northern Stranglethorn, and Yojamba Isle.

Please note that these changes are not exhaustive, and the development team will continue to observe player behavior and make further adjustments if needed.

Class Adjustments

With regards to class balance, the development team follows a once-per-week adjustment schedule to avoid making excessive changes too quickly. The first full round of class adjustments for Season of Discovery is expected during the week of February 20th. However, there is one outlier that requires immediate attention.

Balance Druids will see the following adjustments in the next 24-48 hours:

  • The base damage of the Starsurge spell will be reduced by 30%.
  • A bug affecting the Starsurge spellpower coefficient has been identified and fixed. The spell will now correctly gain 42.9% of spellpower as damage.
  • To compensate for the reduction in Starsurge damage, an additional effect is being added. The next Starfire spell cast by a Balance Druid will deal 66% additional damage.

These adjustments aim to shift the damage output of Balance Druids away from Starsurge and towards their hard cast abilities like Starfire. The goal is not to significantly nerf the overall damage output of Balance Druids but to rebalance their gameplay mechanics.

Conclusion

In addition to the aforementioned changes, the development team plans to address many other issues across various aspects of the game in the coming days. These adjustments will be communicated to players through official forums and hotfixes will be rolled out to address them.
